As title has anyone heard of them? Had any experience with them?? My pony has egg sized lump one side of his jaw, already had xrays and antibiotics he is supposed to be going back in on monday for more tests!! But was wondering if it could just be growing teeth as people have suggested this??

What age is your pony ? is the bump located on the mandible ( lower jaw ) ? Is the bump in line with the issisors ? or the bar ? or under the molars ?

One of my rising 4 year olds has a very bumpy jaw line (on the underside) this is caused by erupting teeth, but my youngsters are not the size of an egg and they are on both sides of the underside of the jaw.

It can be quite normal , the basic explinaton is that the teeth grown down the way ( Into reserve ) before they are pushed up ( Into wear ). These bumps can disapear in time or in some cases remain. Once your pony is over 5 it should have a full mouth in wear ( Everything grown into the correct positions and a full dental system working ). IF these bumps continue to develop past this point then it could be a case that something has went wrong. I have seen full teeth growning in completly the wrong way !

Can not comment on your horse/pony situation however would you believe my section a got put down the line up in a younstock class at the weekend as her "teeth lumps" were still visible...shes only just three...i was shocked to say the least & this was not a local show either!!

As with my four year old and my three year old.
Dentist said they are teeth waiting to pop up.

If your vet hasn't suggested this then he must think it's something else, if it is only on one side and it's the size of an egg then might well be something else.
You say he has had x-rays, this would have told you if it was teeth or not.

Thank you everyone for the replies, they are very useful and interesting!! :)
Everyone who has youngsters who have these tooth bumps are they equal both sides of the jaw??

Sammiea- thats terrible and your pony! Judges eh!!

Bug 2007- I think your right that if the vet has suggested further tests then its best to go with them. The xrays didnt really show much apart from a minute line in the jaw bone, which she thought was the beginnings of infection... hence the antibiotics.
