erythema multiforme ?? ( hives )

i had erythema multiforme and ended up in hospital for 6 days due to an allergic reaction to a new drug i was prescribed so experiance with horses tho

it my horse tor a 16.1 tb , its been going on since the end of septemeber , i dont think my vet really has a clue either !! they said i could get him sent to liverpool uni costing £5000 + with no garentee of finding the allergie ? hes been on box rest with paper as bedding , alfa a oil & rhy / timoth grass haylage & still breaks out im lumps ive tryed just about every thing you can think off .... im at my witts end now ....... any ideas ?????

You have my sympathies! A year ago my tb got a nasty virus and very severe hives, unfortunately since then it flares up all the time with no known cause. We did the whole contact/diet elimination but nothing makes a difference. As it doesn't seem to bother him too much we just accept it, although if gets bad he has steroids, hope you have better luck.

hello yes all the feed has been elliminated , my vet says hes only allowed alfa a oil , as this can help but it dosnt appear to be , he is also only allowed timothy / rhy grass haylage too .. im at a complete loss to what the cause , i even thourght is it possible for it to be something grown on the farmers feild ? this year they farmed rape seed & suggar beet , theres currently nothing growing on them but have recently ploughed them ? the vet also suggested it could be a seasonal thing & could happen all the time around the same time of year ? thats some thing to look forwad too !! thanks so much for taking the time to answer me every on its much appeciated xxxx

Are there any other symptoms?

Itching, joint swellings, coughs, lameness, hair loss etc.

My girly has auto immune disease and Alfa makes her worse. I would probably take him back to just hay as diet, and build up from there. She can't tolerate chaff - sugar beet is our base feed.

I also feed Skratch by global herbs - nightmare to feed but fantastic stuff

hi , no there not itchy they dont really seem to bother him but if i dont get them down if he gets them on his face they will break & weep yellow , if they do i wash his head in hibbi scrub so it dosnt go to infection , global herbs are fantastic , but do not seem to do any thing to help us we have tryed immune plus & restore on there recomendation but the lumps just come back .
