Escape proof terrier harness

Any recommendations for an escape proof harness for a small Border Terrier? She’s slipped her PerfectFit harness twice recently by delving into a hedge after a rabbit. I can’t tighten it any further without stopping her breathing which would curtail the rabbit hunting I suppose.

Unfortunately she is my reactive one with a strong prey drive so life is much happier if she doesn’t slip her harness.

Long slim female Border, suitable for walking on a longline.

an you attach a second lead to her collar? Hopefully low odds of being able to slip both!

I could possibly rig up something to connect the lead to her collar that wouldn’t come into play unless the harness was off?

I’ve never used them myself but you can get harness with a third strap that goes nearer their back legs. Seems to be geared towards sight hound/pointy types

I have an Ancol car harness that I used when feisty terrier learned to slip his collar, it has a loop on the back that collar lead can also go thru

Just use a double ended lead and clip the other end to her collar?

Assuming she wears a collar as well, a short safety line clipped from collar to harness. A sled dog neck line works well but there's people who make them for exactly this purpose on for e.g Etsy and similar. If harness goes over head, collar comes in to play.

This is the harness I use. One of mine used to freak out at traffic and go backwards fast. This was the one harness I could guarantee that would stay on. I use it with a long line regularly as my younger dog likes to go off and herd other dogs that are playing with balls.

I use the Haqihana Double H harness, its a much safer 'houdini' harness than some of the others on the market, as the extra strap site just behind the rib cage, not further back where there is no rib cage protection, but lots of delicate structures like the kidneys etc.

Thanks everyone, I will have a look at a harness with the extra strap. That's probably safer than attached to her collar.

It's a good job she's cute as she's such a pain in the arse! (Spent a good five minutes last night telling her to get into her bed rather than mine, then this morning she refused to get up until 7.45!)

You can buy a ‘lead splitter’ at P@H for a fiver, and clip one end to the harness and the other end to the collar, and then clip the lead to the centre point. Easy way to double secure an escape artist!
