Escaped stallion

The landowner isn’t at fault for any of this. The stallion owner could have employed the same tactic, she didn’t. Instead she has left her horse to repeatedly breed a mare belonging to someone else, injure the other horse and cause damage to fencing and property. Clearly she doesn’t care that much about the horse.

All true. None of which is relevant to the fact that nobody has a right to shoot that horse. I'd be gobsmacked if any vet agreed to euthanase it or assist in someone else euthanasing it without the owners permission

Absolutely.

Not unless/until an appropriate abandonment notice had been issued and end time reached, with no complications or extensions to take into consideration because of the situation.

Could mains electric not be put to use? A good mains fence that makes you think you’ve been kicked in the arse is not the same as jumping a static fence.

Has this stallion been tested for diseases? If not and it passes anything into the mare then is the stallion owner going to pay those damages? Also the damages to the gelding? The fencing? Probably not so if anyone has a case for criminal damage it shouldn’t be the stallion owner if someone shoots it.

That's entirely a civil dispute and my betting is that they could (depending on the state of fences they own) win a court case but never see a penny of the money they have claimed in compensation.

Criminal damage is a criminal act. The stallion is classed as property. Shooting it when it is not causing a danger to humans or in need of euthanasia itself for welfare reasons, and having made no attempt to get the right help in to separate it, would almost certainly be criminal damage.

I'll eat my hat if any vet collaborates in shooting (or castrating) that stallion without the owner's permission today.

Can't say I blame the OP if they don't return, it wasn't the warmest welcome.

It will be the right thing for her to do if she doesn't update. The horses don't belong to her and aren't on her land, she doesn't seem to have been asked by the owner of the horses or of the landowner to post on a public forum for anyone and everyone to read, and the landowner is such a private person that he won't even call in neighbouring farmers to help him sort the situation.

It may be best for all concerned if this thread now quietly dies.

I dont think anuone was rude, only gave their opinions- and isn"t that the point of a forum?.....I think it would only be polite if posters updated their threads

The OP was badgered to give her location and giving a rough area wasn’t enough. They offered to send a video privately to someone to prove they weren’t making up the story as they were being accused of lying over and over and then they were accused of sharing private information of a friend even though they tried to avoid giving a location at all and didn’t give any details other than she has 2 horses on her dads land in Wales. Many people ask advice here for other people, not always with permission and don’t get the grief for it the OP did.

Maybe they were making it all up, I don’t know but if they weren’t I don’t know if I’d be back if I were them.

There are some very nasty posters in this forum. Immediately accuse people of telling lies/making things up/changing their story from previous posts they’ve made.

I’ve no doubt people will slightly change a story if they want to try and remain as anonymous as possible.

vile posters need banning

I hope OP is okay? and friends’ horses are doing fine.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice to prevent this happening elsewhere?

Sorry to hijack post - but have a situation here with 3 Connemara colts & no good fencing, 1/2 a mile from where my mare is turned out.

It’s very very annoying as I couldn’t winter my mare in the adjacent grazing, (heather/ pine/ birch wood) & instead she’s turned out rye grazing that is far too rich. She looks like an elephant and I can’t walk her past the colts.

The colts’ owner is actually a saddle fitter & 3 times 2nd at HOYS (Ridden Highland) who should know better. Aahh?
Is there anything I can actually do about it?

What is the actual issue? Is your fencing solid? If not it should be anyway. You can heighten or inset some electric to keep her of the adjacent boundary. Or is it that your mare is flirty/distracted/trying to get in with the colts?

You might be best starting your own thread for advice, it will be seen by more people

I have only just seen this and I know it's been addressed but the idea of some random person waltzing in and shooting a horse that's fighting and mating woth the 2 other horses in the field with a shotgun made me spit my tea out.
Do people really think its that easy?
A shotgun is no good for the job, getting a safe shot is not easy in that sort of situation either.
Shooting an animal without permission from the owner would result in firearms being removed whilst investigated, that can take months even if your than handed them back, gun laws here are to stop people doing stupid things qith guns and for good reason.
Also the idea of farmers helping with a fired up horse, I have yet to meet any farmer that is comfortable around a quiet horse let alone one that's behaving wildly. They would probably lend you cattle races etc and help set it up but get involved no chance.

I dunno what to tell you.

This is HHO.

We are trigger happy here. It's just who we are.

We like to shoot shit.
