Eskardon controller headcollar help

I have the above headcollar which I was given years ago by a friend and have been using it to turn out/bring in a rather excited Lari after a period of box rest.

He's gone up on me a couple of times now (I wear a hard hat) and have a lunge rein attached which gives me the length of rope to get out of the way.

However I'm a little confused. Am I right in thinking there should be a round metal link attached to the end of the other end of the chain? It seems to be missing so I've put the trigger clip through the end of the chain.

Yes you are missing the large ring for clipping on to.
