Essential items when hacking out

Oh do stop effy, its great fun and so relaxing, Arizahn thats sounds like a suitcase, what type of hacking do you do, possibly more the endurance?

Hi viz
phone
hoof pick
and knife for shortish hacks
Pretty much what Arizahn takes for long ones not that I can hack far now but I used to many moons ago
Horse has a key ring with hone numbers on the saddle and bridle and the riders not so much me now have information in their pockets

I just like to be prepared...and am accident prone...and get lost easily...in Ireland so random weather!

It's all tiny objects really, fits in a small backpack or saddlebag:) Would like to give endurance a try someday. Currently unable to ride much, but as a teenager/early twenties, this was my hacking kit. I put the headcollar on the horse and the leadrope doubled as a neckstrap. Used to be out for a few hours, it was great. Happy times...

Always take my phone and a pocketfull of sliced carrots. In the summer, I like to take my camera too and if I'm off on a long hack, then I usually pop some sweets for myself in my pocket.

Phone, hair bobbles, sometimes my penknife and that's usually about it. Pockets nearly always have some nibbles for the horses in, out of habit and lack of pocket cleaning more than anything else.

We never tend to go far from home though.

When one of the girls fell over a couple of months back, we were about half hour walk away from the yard, she had cut her knee almost down to the bone. Phoned the vet as we started to walk back. I had taken my (luckily) long sleeved top off, and bandaged it with that. I did have a hoody on, so didn't get any funny looks walking back. There honestly wasn't anything else that we needed, other than the phones, as the vet just said to cover the wound and cold hose it when we got back and waited for them to arrive.

Saying that, in the summer, we take a little bottle of fly spray with us!

I have a rather fetching pink bumbag that I take with me, inside is

Phone
Hoofpick
Camera
Sweets for the boy
Lipbalm
Chocolate

I need to invest in a saddle bag with a water bottle holder, will look much better than a bumbag ;)

Phone, BHS card as registered with the people someone can call and get emergency contacts and medical information from, tissues, leadrope, dog poo bag holder ( little green bone that clips to my saddle) and doggy! I have direct access to TROT rides though and don't go on roads. Funny to watch my border collie staying at my horses shoulder religiously and laying down and waiting if we see another horse haha

When it stops raining. Bring a long straw coz I'm talking big bottle not minature. People wonder why my horses are so good at standing still :biggrin3:

CP you won't be wanting any then ? :wink3:

I'm astounded at the amount of kit people take out hacking with them! I stick the key in my pocket, my inhaler down one side of my bra, and my mobile down the other, and off I go. In 30 years of hacking, I've never needed anything else. i've used a sock once, to stem profuse bleeding (horse), and I've used sticks and stones to remove stones from feet. Never felt the need for an arsenal of "just in case" stuff.

Ooo I tried a bit the other day and it didn't taste of bananas. I need to bottle it. I'll let you know when and you can have a selection :biggrin3:
