Don't suppose there's anyone out there who fancies pairing up with the blinged up hyper highland for the Valley Forge TREC next month (7th/8th)? Pref level 2...

He's not a nutjob and he does ok at indoor trecs, just don't fancy tackling the full 20km by himself! I can just about navigate if needed :p

JFTD if I was more experienced then I would definitely have joined forces with you. My map reading skills are excellent though ;)

You don't need experience  you can do the map reading if you want! I managed to get my times pretty bang on so I can do speeds instead :p

JFTD, If no luck here why don't you post on the trec-uk forum too, I think that's where lots of trec bods go if looking.

Yea it seems pretty dead at the moment though, I thought I'd try my luck here first. Thanks though :)

ah bless you, when my twit of a lad spooks at everything and refuses to walk down a step you would be pulling that bling off and throwing it at me ATM :D no seriously doing my first event in three weeks but been practicing and hoping its going to go well but going round with the hyped up blinged up highland does sound like fun :D

What I didn't mention about the hyper highland is that he has a bird phobia - the real reason I don't want to go it alone! - and will spend the entire time jumping out of his skin at birds (he does do anything, just jumps in fear that this one might be carrying a chainsaw / semi automatic /  ). Your lad will probably seem saintly!

What are you off to in 3 weeks? If you can actually event, you can definitely do trec. I am meant to be having the highlands eventing debut in 3 weeks too. I am anticipating death or disaster :o

when I said event, I meant my first trec :D its Northamptonshire and doing a level 1 but hopefully this time next year be going all over the place doing them ;) or else I will have ungracefully retired and be pursing my next ideal! ;)

My lad would be okay until we bumped into big leaves they are also extremely dangerous and could also be armed with chain saws, semi automatics and/or both!! :D

Good luck to you and the blinged up, hyped up highland - is an evening event everything apart from the orienteering?

I'd like to second Miss Bean's offer for pairing potential next year, JFTD :D No use to you now, of course, but by then I might have a beast that could manage it.

I will check the black ponys calendar. The date rings a bell but I have no idea why. Only thing is he needs a pretty confident hacking friend as his confidence dribbled away otherwise. I am ok at map reading but hopeless at speeds (i don't seem to care enough to improve!)

If only I had access to a towing vehicle! Have been looking for a partner and I am ok(ish) at a map but useless at speeds! I have done the winter series for a few years now but my boy's a complete wimp hacking on his own, yet perfectly brave when hacking with others, even if the 'other' is a wimp (think it makes him feel like a real man when the other horse is more scared than him!).
No idea what the levels mean I'm afraid, but I'm sure we'd be fine, have won a couple of winter series before. Annoying that my dad's disappearing with the land rover for that weekend :(

Perce - Have you got a link to the Trec UK forum please.

Sorry to hijack your thread JFTD...

I am also looking for a pairs partner for the Martock Trec in August (South Somerset, Nr Yeovil). Happy to do level 1 or 2. I can do all the map reading (I teach it to Girl Guides) if needed.

My horse sulks if we do the orienteering alone, and I do like a good gossip on the way round!

I live pretty close, so if anyone from further a field wants to box over you & horsey are welcome to stay at mine.

Like A2 said, if I had the faintest idea I would :o

ETS, where is your event and are we still going to Ely to meet the blue pipes at the end of summer? My Nitty pony should be ready for a look round by August-y time I hope?

Good luck with the Northamptonshire TREC! I imagine an evening event is everything bad orienteering but I've never done one :o

Haha thanks very much, fat lot of use you are!

Fergs is fine with a buddy really, the most he does is flinch if a scary bird comes past! Alone, he's only really liable to bounce on the spot and impersonate a stallion. I reckon they'd make a great team if you're free, no worries if not - will def see you out sometime!

He sounds very like mine. Unfortunately due to towing laws, I can't pick anyone up :( L2s are easy, just longer POR really as I don't think 12km (L1) is worth it! I did an L2 as my first full (solo) on my other horse after similar winter series success and we were fine, so I reckon it would be fine for you :)

Lol it's only a little 20km ride, then walk/canter along a corridor the next day and a little play round essentially a handy pony course. Who needs a clue, either of you!

Isleham, mini mini ODE where I will be trying not to die :o If I don't wuss out... We should def go to ely but I am not going near those blue pipes. I value my life!

I don't tend to do the social side of things though :o Too awkward for the socially inept. [eta - I mean the social evening stuff, I don't mean I would refuse to hold conversations out on the POR!]
