I'm interested in a 4.5yo welsh cob x, he is currently 14.2hh and his sire is 15.2hh and his dam's height is unknown, additionally his brother has reached 15.3hh. Im around 5ft 7ish, and people believe i need a horse around 15.2hh, what height do people believe he will grow as i've seen that an equines skeleton doesn't stop growing until their 6. But my friend said welshy types stop growing round 4.5yo, so he will stay at around that height. Opinions appreciated thanks.

I'm not sure why because your
5ft 7 that you need a horse that's 15.3hh? You most likely would look fine even if the horse stayed at 14.2 providing the horse took up your leg and being a welsh I'm sure it would.

As for growth you can't say for sure, he may grow he may not there's no real way of being 100%. Some do the string test on here which may be mentioned later on by someone who knows the exact way to do it. It's meant to give a rough height estimate.

Forum seems obsessed with height lately, went from weight to now height..

I shouldn't think he's grow upwards more than maybe an inch. But he will start to bulk out from now.

Personally at 5'7 you will be absolutely fine on a 14.2 Welsh. I am 5'10 with very long legs and would be perfectly fine on a 14.2.

I think the safest thing would be to decide if the horse was suitable at the present height - do you look daft on him?

Id take any more growth as a bonus but not a given

why do you "need" 15.2?

im 5'7....and had a 15.2hh horse and now have a 14.2hh....all fine as long as they carry me ok who cares what people say? :)
