I posted a few weeks ago about Ethel being lame and needing back lady etc. Back lady came out and did all sorts of stuff to her and Ethel loved every minute of it, except the big vibrating thing that she ran over her back, she had the look of "this feels very nice but its making a funny noise so it could kill me..." Anywho, back lady said she was tight through her back and hamstrings, but she wasn't sure if she was so bad it would make her trot up lame and told me give her another week off then start some walking in hand twice a day for a few days, then lunge her. She gave me some tips on things to lunge her in to get her working over her back and streghten her up so that she doesn't get tight again by charging round with her head stuck up.
I lunged her today for the first time in ages, and expected her to be a tit for a while like she always used to be when lunged, but she was good as gold! She used to charge off as soon as out on a circle on the right rein, pretending she was going to bronc but not doing anything except cantering round flat out and nearly falling over. Today she was perfect on both reins, really listened to me and only cantered off once when something spooked her, but trotted again as soon as I asked. She also didn't go round with her head stuck in the air, she held her head level with her withers and a few times even put her nose on the floor when trotting round. So now I'm thinking being tight through her back was causing her pain when lunged which is why she made such a fuss so I'm really glad that I got her back checked and she is now happy
Also, she looked very sound when trotting round
I'm going to keep lunging her till Tuesday when I can get the vet to see her trot up just to be sure that she is totally sound as I'm not the best at detecting slight lameness, although I can see now that she's sounder than she was before.
This is a very pointless post but it just feels like we got something out of todays lunging session, she was on her best behaviour and loked so happy and relaxed, so I wanted to share
