My farrier has recommended i use eucalyptus oil for my horses soles as she has just had her shows taken off and this is good as a hoof hardener. I have never heard of it but after speaking to the chemist it appears it is very common.

I dont want to apply neat oil direct as I have bought very small bottles and wondered what I could mix it with to make it last longer without losing its effect. Can I mix it with sunflower/vegetable oil? If so in what quantities?

Thanks

NAF Profeet Hoof Rub contains eucalyptus oil.

The oil is good for feet, but to be on the safe side you shouldn't apply it neat. Either use a pre-formulated product such as the NAF one, or mix it in with something like Kevin Bacon, or make up a solution of eucalyptus oil, iodine and water.

ETS: I've used it in the past with Kevin Bacon, and aqueous cream. My old farrier had a eucalyptus/coppex mix that was fantastic but needed to be used with caution (v. strong!).
