We've mats down and over summer have rarely had the horses in except on the odd occasion. In summer the stables are bedded down with some shavings/miscanthus at the back for when the horses are in and these are pretty much deep littered and only the poops removed. Anyway, yesterday I was cleaning out the boxes in readiness for winter. I clean them out completely and wash with Virkon S before laying their proper winter beds. As I was sweeping out the back on one of the boxes I saw a few bot pupae amongst the old shavings I was taking out. I was quite shocked as I keep my horses on a good worming schedule and have worm counts done twice a year. I know bots don't show up, but since I've used Pramox a couple of times this year I was shocked to find the bot pupae so evident.
My question is, should I worm NOW against bots or still wait until after the first couple of hard frosts like we've always done at this time of year? That said, it might be months before those happen. What would you do?
