All of a sudden, my riding hat has started to give me a rash, especially if it's hot/ my head sweats (gross, I know, sorry!). Is it time to admit defeat and invest in a new one?! Or can anyone recommend a cleaning product/ what to clean it with?!

Thanks :)

You could give it a little wash then dry it off with a hairdryer, have done this a few times just dont soak it through, failing that they do a hat deodrant but suppose thats just masking the problem and make the rash worse, I know what you mean my everyday hat is awful covered in sweat and makeup on the inside smells a bit rough to.

I bring my yard hat home once a month (or more often if I've got v hot in it) and rub baby shampoo into the lining, scrub with nail brush, rinse & pop on a shelf in the airing cupboard for the rest of the day & overnight.
Its horrible the colour that comes out when I rinse it (with shower head).

If wearing make-up/foundation etc & hair products, you'd be horrified at the build-up of bugs & dirt in the lining of your hat under a good micro-scope....... bleurggghhhhhh!

I dread to think about the microscopic ick! :-S Right, I am going to bring it home tonight and wash it, see if that helps!

I used to have the same problem with my old non ventilated riding hat. I would end up with a forehead covered in a rash and pimples after lessons or after a long ride on a hot day. I made a couple of sweatband inserts out of terry toweling and used double sided Hollywood tape to keep it in place. (Apparently microfibre cloth works well too). I was amazed at the amount of grime that would come out when I washed them (yucky) :eek3:
If you are challenged in the make-it-yourself department you can buy ready made ones too http://www.arco.co.uk/product?productcode=422600&OID=68893

Not something I've tried personally but apparently some people swear by sticking a pantyliner to the inside of the front of their helmet. Then after a ride they peel it off throw it away and stick a clean one in for next ride. Idea being a nice clean surface against your forehead and prevent makeup/ sweat build up on helmet.

This works a treat! We have a yard box of liners on the side, must look like we've got a yard full of women's issues going on!
