Ah, it was on at the beginning. Clare Balding was asking how he would describe himself, and does he like himself - to which he answered no!

And said he's had to become someone he didn't really like to succeed, and had upset people in the process.

Yes some very interesting comments from OT in that interview, but I think he is missing the point, I believe his detractors have such strong views based on his overly competitive approach. I have seen him take some unreasonable and quite unprofessional risks because he wanted to win.

To be fair he has matured a lot in the last 18 months in his tactical approach to riding. The results speak for themselves. It's a shame his ability to self-reflect doesn't take that in to account.

hmm, interesting. the thing is, a lot of top riders are very driven, they don't get there otherwise. i think those of us who have been less than wild about Oli didn't mind him being driven... WFP is driven, but never (afaik) at the expense of the horses. that's the bit that i don't like.
i thought he'd really matured over the last year or so, his riding at Badminton and Burghley just got better and better, he did an amazing job at both... but then he set off XC yesterday like a man on an absolute mission and i thought "Uh oh, he's pushing too hard again" and then i said "he's going to stuff it up", out loud 2 strides before his first run-out.
