I see Berlin has been retired from sport so that he is more available to mare owners via chilled and fresh semen. Hopefully with him pulled from the sport it will make his semen more viable.......although with his semen fee and the price of the euro against the pound it will make him quite expensive...

Difficult to know if the semen will improve and remember he must be put to a true blood mare so you don't get something that is heavy and cumbersome. Prefer Eurocommence Zurich who is by Berlin but carries the superb blood of Warina/ Erina - both of which has produced grand prix horses. I know because I have one of Warina's offspring who has proved himself at grand prix level - just an unbelieveable line but please make sure your mare is light, quick in the air, scopey and a little bit sharp - then you have the perfect mix !

I was just about to say a similar thing j1234 - a lot of Berlin's end up looking quite heavy and almost as though IMO there is a hint of draftiness about them (which of course there isn't) when he is put to heavier boned mare's.

Zurich is a very nice stallion, but his foal report was not spectacular and he is yet unproven with regards to his youngstock, and again his semen can also be "touch and go".

I think with Berlin, as with all stallions, is that you need to match the correct mare to him, and I think that this is what sometimes breeders forget to do. All they are interested in is the stallion themselves, without thought as to whether they are putting them onto the correct mare.

I think this happens particularly when breeders are only considering what will sell and using 'the top stallions' because their offspring fetch high prices. There are those on here who keep telling us this is the right thing to do, but it doesn't sound like intelligent breeding to me.

not sure if the specials still on but Julie at Lambridden was doing Berlin Straws For the first time, they are able to offer the frozen semen of Eurocommerce Berlin to the open market. Straws are priced at 250 euros per straw, for a minimum order of 10 straws.
