start getting excited yet? I know this isnt exactly latest news but surely we should be discussung who is going to win by now. Obviously Tortilas has the dressage sewn up, but who does everyone think willl win the other medals in that.
and what about the showjumping? i had a very interesting chat with Jur Vreiling yesterday and we ought not forget the Dutch are defending champions. they were on fire in Valkenswaard this week (well Jur's horse was yesterday anyway, he won a jump off cos he said he couldnt hold one side of it......) and what about the individual medals? I would like ben to get one.
too excited for anymore words *bounces in seat*

I would really really really like Tim and Corlato to win a medal!

For the dressage, what do you think the British teams chances are? I was reading the bit in HH this week and i really think they could have a good go at a medal........... (Probably totally cursed it now

!)

oh i dont know really, they might squeeze a bronze in the team i think but the competition is a lot more intense in the dressage isnt it

That was exactly what I ended up thinking! My first thought was wow we have a fab team and then i started thinking about all the other fab teams and how stiff the competition will be!

I saw Whitni Star in Hong Kong and they looked like a fab combination but didn't get the best marks - would be nice to see them do well. Obviously would love to see Balagur get a medal.

In Hong Kong i saw a horse that i am sure was called Nadine something competiting for Germany - she was a lovely chestnut mare who did a fabulous test - but she doesn't seem to be in their team?? I might be totally mistaken! Whoever it was did one of the best tests i have ever seen!

Its hard to say for a lot of us, naturally we want a Brit to do well
( particularly Tim ) but we get so little terrestrial coverage of SJ that we couldn't tell the current form of a lot of European riders.

I know there are the satalite channels but a lot of the programming is at obscure times and unless you are a die hard fan like SJFAN we don't / can't follow the coverage or internet links.

Unless you are retired or follow the shows around the european circuit in some other way I'm not sure we'd know enough to guess.

I just want a good display of SJ all round and everyone to comeback safely without injury to horse or rider.

well even me who sees a lot of the top jumpers regularly doesnt always get it right and also i think you can know too much sometimes! I think I would like to see Holland win a medal though are all really good riders and the french are desrving as well.

I'm leaving in an hour and yes getting very excited.

Showjumping: it is hard. I really don't know. I would have had a punt on Lantinus if he was going - probably the classiest horse around without Shutterfly in the field. But with them both absent I don't know. Oki Doki?

Dressage: Gold: Totilas Silver: Salinero Bronze: Mistral Hjoris, with GB taking team silver. Parzifal might keep Laura and Alf out of the medals. Balagur will be up there but not in the medals and will get a standing ovation (rumour is Alexandra will retire him now). Lancet too will be in there if Emma rides like she did in Hong Kong. But no one can touch Totilas UNLESS his youth gets to him and he crumbles in the atmosphere.

i reckon keep an eye on Daragh Kerins for a good individual spot and with a bit of luck maybe a medal.

Denis is a huge loss to the irish team, but france for gold and italy for a medal also.

i am slightly concerned the french may have expended a bit much of their horses energy winning the super league....not so the Dutch or the Italians who have barely used their first team for that

Night Train is a super little horse and indeed could be a good outside bet. I'd have said Oki Doki but he's not been in his best form of late. Of course it could be that he will peak at just the right time. Also for Holland, Opium is a consistent performer. Switzerland have distinct chances, particularly imo Pius Schwizer. Rolf-Goran Bengtsson must have a good chance assuming that Ninja La Silla comes straight back to form after recent lay-off. Nor would I rule out the individual for Ukraine, Brazil's Cassio Rivetti.

Cassio is a good bet but i was not impressed with Night train in Monaco to be honest, in any class he jumped but they are all entitled to an off day. as i have looked after it in the past I have more faith in Tom Ryans and it jumped super in Dublin.
the swiss are definately a medal hope and ninja la silla probably needed a break it has been on the go since the indoor season pretty much, so definately RGB as they call him in sweden is definately worth watching.

23/08/09 HORSE SPORT Ireland this evening (Sunday) confirmed that Denis Lynch and 'Lantinus' will not now be part of the Irish squad due to compete at the European Show Jumping Championships in Windsor, England later this week.

The bay gelding 'Lantinus' was withdrawn from the squad today due to a slight injury which means that under veterinary advice the horse will have to be rested for about four weeks.

Denis Lynch said today: "I am extremely disappointed at this development. We have been building up to these championships all year, but it is in the best interests of the horse that he is rested. I do, however, wish the rest of the team the very best of luck at Windsor this week."

Team Manager Robert Splaine commented: "Losing 'Lantinus' from the European squad is a major blow, as he is one of the most talented horses in the world, and he and Denis were amongst our strongest combinations for the championships."

Horse Sport Ireland will be announcing a replacement for 'Lantinus' on the European Squad shortly.

Re latinus, denis was also nominated on all inclusive so i am fairly sure this was very sudden or he wouldnt have started that one at valkenswaard. and the Irish have five in on the windsor entries so looks like he has been replaced already.
as i said once before on anther thread you can only replace horses from the nominated list, and once the definate entry is in that is it. so the irish team is as on the windsor site at this moment.

shame for denis especially as he would have expected to be at the competitive end of things.but thats horses for you.hope there wont be any more surprise withdrawls.i have a fancy for the italians to do well under their new management.

I see cameron hanley has been added to the irish squad. i think he probably is the next most deserving rider anyway. He has had quite a few good performances this year reagrdless, despite a poor show recently. hes definitely up to the challenge.
Very disappointed that denis wont get to compete though, h was definitely our best medal chance. Tom is a class rider, but his horsehas been a bit inconsistent this year and this probably comes a bit early for him. I think Tom will be a rider to watch in the future though.

Yes she will (or so I was told yesterday by somebody who's just left that yard.)

Anyone know what times the team competition starts on Friday. Tickets say 9.30, but when you look at starting list and results page, it says 8.30. Confused??
I don't want to get down there too early and have to wait an hour before it starts, but I don't want to miss the start either.
Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
