OK, this is question really for people with horses in Europe/Spain. Well as it became law here for horses to have microchips and passports from 1st October, I got my 2 chipped in August. However, as they are not breed registered or anything, they just have standard European passports from the microchip association. When the vet came, it seemed really detailed - she took photos (body shots and head shots), marked down any scars (my mare has 3 very obvious and unique white scars on her off-hind from a wire injury before I owned her), took their names, my National ID details etc etc...so I'm thinking their passports would be full of info.

Well, seeing as this is Spain I should've known better . They are rubbish! First off, they don't even have their names in?? Secondly, my CHESTNUT haflinger is listed as palomino (this really annoys me), thirdly, they have put me (owner) as Spanish...I'm not, I'm English, none of the identifying features (scars etc) are shown anywhere

So my question is, do you think this is important? Bearing in mind I am going to be moving province (county) soon and may possibly be taking my horses back to UK at some point if my plans don't work out here :( Should I contact my vet and get the details changed/added or not worry about it?

Thanks in advance :)

This is a tricky one as you know only too well what spain is like!! As having lived in spain for the last 9 years and being a horse transporter i would suggest u go back to the vet and get it sorted as the local authorities can get bloody picky when it comes to moving horses across provinces and problems can arise on entering the uk if the horses don't match the paperwork.
Good luck

Thanks cj22...I'll do that then. It's just so annoying because they've only just arrived and I know it'll take them absolutely forever to change it, and chances are it will still be wrong anyway  but I might be moving within the next month. I've never moved them across provinces before but if you say they are picky with paperwork (guess it's like everything else here then? lol) I'll speak to the vet and see if she can sort it :)

I totally understand your problem. I breed mini horses in the North of Italy and I am obligated to give all foals an Italian passport which costs €60 and has nothing more than the date of birth the name and the chip number. It is a total waste of paper. If I was buying a horse with a document like this how could I know that it is his document or must I buy a chip reading machine so I can check. grrrrrrrr.
My foals are all dna tested and both mares and stallion are registered with the NMPRS (Holland miniature horse Ass.) The Nmprs passports are complete of all info including DNA test and photo. Each year I have to fight with the Italian authorities as they want me to give the foals an Italian chip number which I refuse as a Dutch passport is supplied with microchip and to be honest this has much more value than the Italian one.
Sorry if I am ranting but you really got me going with this topic.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
:(:(:(:(
