the riders have been informed today so you will all be finding out shortly. I hear William, Mary, Tina, Oli and the individuals out of Polly, Nicola Tweddle and Lucy......
if that is true, I told you barbury would make no difference didnt I. I hear Daisy wants to have a crack at Burghley and also that one of the horse choices may be a bit of a surprise. We shall wait with baited breath for the official annoucement shall we......

Well I got the first 3 correct
wink.gif
, omitted the 4th as he's not a favourite (biased, me?
tongue.gif
) Would give a place to Nicola Tweddle as she has been consistent, Polly, hmmm, maybe, Lucy, hmmmm maybe not!

Interesting though Lu
wink.gif
. Do we know who the selectors are?

Why wait when we can speculate?

Assuming the riders are correct (and Nicola Wilson = Nicola Tweddle - any relation to the gymnast?), my guesses are as follows.

Team:
William: Idalgo
Mary: Imperial Cavalier
Oli: Flint Curtis
Tina: Miners Frolic

Individuals:
Polly: Regulus
Lucy: Woodfalls Inigo Jones

First reserve:
Nicola: Opposition Buzz

Umm very very interesting. I hope Polly, Ruth, Nichola and Daisy get slots but obviosuly they can't all - they have all done well this season and really deserve slots.

Just have to wait and see! Can a rider have more than one horse on a team? WFP could just make up the whole team?!

guys, all speculation is over. They told the team yesterday, but note i said Oliver and not which horse.....
wink.gif
ruth didnt make it and polly is first reserve.

Nicola has a lot of up and coming horses so though Buzz is not quite there with the dressage I am not surprised she is being given the experience.

I am guessing Ollie and Carousel Quest as only alternative as they went well at Kentucky and Coup De Coeur has done nothing.

So, is it
WFP (with 1 of about 4!) have they named one, or is it to be decided later?
Mary with Imp Cav.
Tina of course.
Oli with Carousel Quest?!
and individuals
Lucy (if she can keep Shaabrak sound.) hasn't his sj been a bit dodgy at times, didn't he have a few at Badders? can't check cos BE website down.
Nicola

Polly as 1st reserve?
maybe Ruth as 2nd reserve? must admit, i wish they'd give her a crack, she could lead the stressage and if everything went her way, get a medal.

big will on Idalgo or Machiato i hear at teh moment, lucy on woodfalls inigo jones (clearly a run out and laods down in aachen didnt matter.....) and Oli on Quest. But i think there is a big ?? over that one and i reckon polly has a good chance of going.
I did tell you barbury had made no difference at all
smile.gif
:)

Lucy has some serious horsepower coming up with 3 potential team contenders in the next few years so again not surprised about that either also he went well in Kentucky. Its better to send weaker combinations to the Euros than Worlds where the tracks are usually tougher or Olympics where they are limited to 5.

hmm. but Oli has only done 1/2 a season with CQ, hasn't he, and 1 4*?! wasn't the horse off all last year?
i think Daisy would be justified in feeling very put out. if she chose to go to Burghley instead that's a different matter, of course...

will mary have kings temptress as a back up? best of brits at luhmuhlen this year, her first 4star but then there are others in that situation too-woodfall inigo jones naming one.

Apache Sauce would be the back up for Mary particularly after his 5th at Barburyand 4th at Burghley last year.

Interesting! i must admit i do agree with kerilli about Daisy and would probably feel a bit miffed if i was Ruth Edge.

But of course they are probably lots of factors we don't know about!
wink.gif
Do you know when the list will be offically announced?

very hard decision. so many good combinations to choose from. i agree with most, however i still think FC would be best for oli considering he has won a 3* and 4* this season.

Actualy, C Quest has e very good record with Oli-even better than flint, in the last year i'd say; 1st, 2nd, 1st,5th 8th-at A& 3/4*.

I think Ruth deserves a slot over Lucy and Polly TBh-but despite her best efforts she didn't make it to Barbury.

hasn't CQ had soundness issues in the past? isn't that why he missed most of '07 and '08 seasons?
i know Spring Along can be frustrating in the dressage, but he's a real toughie and pretty much guaranteed to be there on day 3, bouncy and sound...! not sure that can be said of one or two others...!
Sharon must be rueing that start box at Badders.

I would be surprised if Carousel Quest is selected, as the first criterion on the selection policy is to have had a run at Advanced or above in the last 4 weeks, and as far a I can see he hasn't been out since Kentucky. Mind you, as Flint Curtis didn't complete Barbury I'm not sure if that counts either.

Hopefully the official announcement will be on the shiny new BE website by tomorrow, so we can start telling the selectors where they've gone wrong!

FC didn't complete Barbury? i thought he just had a bad sj round, what happened to him xc?
hmm, he may have won Badders and Express Eventing but he dogged it at Burghley last year, i don't think he'd be my top choice.

kerilli, you are not reading my posts properly are you, shame on you!!
wink.gif
on sunday it was being discussed why he hadn't gone xc and i said because oli already knew he was preselected or more interestingly because he wasn't....
and Atilla, i think you will find that if carousel quest jumps round at aston that will fulfil that requirement nicely and i bet you any money you like that like with others in the past (Toytown pre Athens, Prinmores Pride pre 2006 WEG) that his selection is conditional upon that.

and you think that they wouldnt put a late one in for a member of the British Team? Unless there is somewhere else they can go instead of course. However as i keep saying i think Polly will end up going.

In theory the run should be before the selection date, but I guess the In exceptional circumstances a horse and rider combination might be selected who have not fulfilled the above criteria get-out clause would cover this. However, at the time I post this, Carousel Quest is not entered for Aston, and the Advanced section is closed. However, Ollie does have 3 others in it, so I expect a solution can be found if necessary.

My feeling is that if you have clearly defined selection criteria, then there should be no exceptions made. Harsh, but at least everyone knows exactly what they have to do. Otherwise, I think the selectors should be given carte blanche to pick who they want - and if the teams don't perform you sack the selectors!
