This idea is new isn't it? Showing a competitor out on the XC a yellow flag to say basically improve your riding! And then a red flag to pull them up if they continue riding badly etc.?

Ive never seen this before. Surely this is as a result of Amy Tryon....??

very good idea IMO, although there will now be scope for more contorversy etc ie if someone is or isnt pulled up and the wrong decision is made.

i think they should have stopped the german grey horse, as he obviously wasnt sound after the fence, and proved that this morn, so maybe he should have been stopped???

Oh that WAS the grey who withdrew this morning? I did wonder which horse that was. He did bash the fence pretty hard and was definately lame shortly after but then he did seem to come right. But I guess that's what adrenaline does.

I agree, its a great idea but then it brings opinion in which is where arguements begin!

yep, it's new. a very good idea too, needed implementing a few times at Burghley i think.
the German guy who was yellow flagged and pulled up immediately was a bit unlucky though, i think... he'd gone the long way at the last water cos the horse was a bit tired jumping in, and i thought he'd done a good job till then.
the Russian girl should have been red flagged in the start box!!

Yep new brought in after AT incident I believe.
Fantastic system and all the times it was used it certainly needed to be used! Hopefully now it has been used somewhere else, it can start being used properly at our 4*s as although they had the flags at Burghley this year they weren't used - and there were several times it should have been!

I thought it really worked - sounded from the commentary that decisions are made by a Ground Jury who must be able to view riders' progress on the course. IMO far better to see a controversial decision being made than knackered neddies falling all over the place. I was very relieved when one horse (Top Gun I think) was stopped. No argument there.

As for the Russian girl - how on earth did some of those riders qualify??????? There were a few who wouldn't have made it around the Ballylunasy Pony Club Hunter Trials!

I did notice that the Russian girl had obviously broken one of her stirrups...not that she looked much of a rider anyway so absolutely no hope of getting round with only one!

Yes, she lost her stirrup just after fence 8. She jumped 10 and nearly fell off and then the stewards ran to stop her....how she managed to get down the slide at 11 without falling off I have no idea!

I was standing next to the event vet at 25 and he was happy that the german should have been stopped. he had two stops on a tired horse and he was worried a horse fall would be next.
