Euthanasia?

I've been there twice when horses have died, one was a pre arranged date for an oldie, calmly done by injection, his friends were there the whole time, when he was gone they were let in to say their goodbyes, no regrets, he was struggling bless him. My other lad's heart gave out during a colic attack, which was very traumatic for all concerned, having to climb stable walls when he got cast, even the vet begged him to stay down and rest, my other lad was in the barn throughout, I remember vividly, my colicing lad grabbing the stable bars with his teeth, then letting go while I rubbed his forehead, I truly believe that was the moment his heart gave up, at that point my other lad came into the box next door and gently touched my hand through the bars, I believe he was telling me that his friend was gone, he grieved for a long while, refusing to leave the barn and looking so unhappy in himself, the best that can be said about that experience, is that it was quick, about an hour from the vet arriving and it haunts me still wondering if only I'd done this or that
