Has anyone got these mats ? Are they worth the money. I know they are slightly more expensive then the horse mats. I have been looking at the 20mm or 24mm and fully matting both 12x12 stables, do you still put a full thick bed in ? Do they help with very wet horses ?.

My current bed is a large flake shavings about 6-9inches deep with large bankings and it covers the whole stable with a 4inch gap at the door.Thinking about keeping the bankings as shavings and wood pellets for the base.

Does anyone have photos of their beds and how much bedding do you put in ?

New to matting and want to make sure I get the correct thickness and bedding.
Also I am currently going through 4bales of shavings a week at £5 each will I save anything or make the bed easier to muck out the wet ****** :-) thanks

I did a lot of reseach a few years back when I bought mine and ended up with Easymat (they were on ebay at the time, not sure if they're still there?) I phoned and negotiated a deal as I was buying quite a lot as three friends and I did it together to get a bulk discount. They're not the thickest or the cheapest but seemed to be a good compromise, even for my 16.3 ISH who weighs a fair bit and lies down happily on it.

My friend's 17 hander who weighs about the same but has a smaller stable has caused his to stretch a fair bit though - it's not that big a deal as it flattens rather than wears away so there's as much protection - it's just a bit annoying to have to keep trimming it - although it's easy enough with a stanley knife. It's finally stopped stretching this winter and we're in our 3rd or 4th winter with them now. They tell you to expect some expansion for a few months but we didn't expect that much! My boy's barely stretched at all but he doesn't walk around as much as the other one - who also has a strange slightly twisting action in one hind leg which I think contributed!

I put a thin bed of shavings on top (about 2 inches) mainly to soak up the wet as my stable drains almost too well and I end up with a pool of wee outside the door without it.

I have a huge stable (18'x14') and only bed down the back 1/4 to a 1/3. As my boy always has his head in his haybar or over the door he never poos in his bed so I only have to take out a smallish patch of wet (about three forksfull) and a bale of shavings lasts me a fortnight. I put a whole one in and bank it up and then pull down a bit every day until there's none left and I start again. I know I'm lucky though and my friends get through about one bale a week.

I've had my mayo mats for about 10 years and they are still going strong. I use straw on them, smaller bed in the corner and I fully muck out daily.

I have just bought these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FANTASTIC...oods_StableAccessories_SM&hash=item20ce3cde06

and love them. They say to leave a small gap round the edge and being a smart arse I didnt so after a few weeks they expanded and lifted. As above I found them really easy to trim back again.

They are lovely and soft much nicer than the hard rubber mats and easy for one person to lift. Dont make the mistake I made of getting them delivered to your house thinking they will fit in a corsa - they dont

I have a 12x 12 stable and bed about half of it in shavings. I put about 2inches down with small banks and use about a bale a week. I also put in half a bin bag of shredded paper each week to bulk the bed out as its free :D Prior to this I was using 1.5-2 bales a week so long term I am saving money and my pony is comfortable at night

PS £5 for shavings is a bargain I am paying £7

Thanks for the replies , they give me them cheap as I buy a lot haha, they should be £7 but I get them from my local saw mill
