I did a post a while ago along these lines but can't find it! Stables are nearing completion so I really need to buy some mats very soon. The base is hardcore so I'm thinking EVA mats would suit best as they're generally thicker and softer (so best to mould over the uneven ground underneath)? I've never used EVA mats (have permanent fitted pretty solid rubber mats at my mums), so would appreciate your reviews on the makes that are out there. Trying to find the best price too if anyone can recommend, I want mats which last but they have to cover an area 15ft x 45ft so quite a large area (pricey...)!

I just purchased 60 EVA mats to cover an area 16ft x 40ft. The surface I planned to cover is concrete. I wanted to glue the mats permanently to the floor and permanently to each other. However, I've been told that since EVA is soft and very lightweight, there will be movement from my donkeys' feet and that it won't adhere to the floor. I've been searching the web for every and any substance that will do the job. Before I purchased the mats, the seller said gluing the mats is not a problem. A couple of companies won't even take on the job because they don't think it will last. Any extra mats I planned to glue to the walls of the barn. Not gluing them is not an option because I don't want to be removing the mats to clean the urine from under them. This probably hasn't helped you make any decisions, but I had to throw in my two cents.

What make are yours RutlandH20 and if you don't mind saying, how much did they cost you (PM me if you prefer)? I dont mind about not gluing as I couldn't anyway to a hardcore floor! Sounds annoying for you though, not sure what the solution is :(

My dads got light weight mats on an uneven floor and they just sit on top of it, they dont mould to the floor (my heavy weight normal rubber mats do) The wee does travel under them and ive no doubt that they would float if you had a puddle!! and they do travel around the stable

I have got Fieldguard rubber mats, rubber crumb mats and EVA cow mats. The field guard are very good, drain well and are extremely hard wearing but are a faff to lift to disinfect the stable. The rubber crumb drain brilliantly but are showing signs of wear after only 2 years. The EVA cow mats are brilliant. They are hardwearing, soft and extremely light compared to rubber mats. They need more bedding as they don't drain, but if I was buying any more mats it would be these.

I've got quatro Eva mats think 30mm and they're brilliant ,easy to cut when fitting lightweight to move/clean had mine 18 months still in perfect condition. As for movement it will depend on how well they have been fitted.
Think the very thick cheap ones are a different matter as they are to light.

mine are 32mm cheap ones in blue from ebay they have been great down now for a year and a half, but they do spread, and have gone thin in places, they do float if the stable leaks and i get a puddle in the corner, also horse is a hay dunker :( but we are now upgradingg the drainage and it seems to be solving the problem. I have had a thin bed of shavings down but was too messy, tried just a pee patch too stinky, now have a full straw bed ontop, urine drains through and away in one stable the other has shavings/ sawdust in the hollow under the mats, where the urine sits as no drainage, this need s taking out once or twice a week
despite the bad bits i wouldnt be without them as it makes the stable warmer, and one is a foot dragger so hes never on the concrete anymore,
i did two 12 x 12 stables, a 6 x 14 dog grooming room, and have offcuts lining dog cages,/ dog beds, and still have a sheet left over it cost me £260 for the lot

I have the 22mm cow mats and I love them! Mine have always been on a concrete base though and properly fitted so I can only comment on that set up, but they are warm, comfy and hardwearing, no complaints at all.

I have 2 large stables with Quattro 34mm mats, they are brilliant. I got them 2nd hand from a dairy farmer, OH cut them to fit with a hand saw, they don't move. They have a website, I think the rrp is around £60.
