Even a Charles Owen round fit is not round enough for my head, what do I try next?

Anybody got any advice on round fitting hats? I feel like I've tried every brand out there, including a Charles Owen round fit, but they're all too tight at the temples, whilst often having room at the back. Are there any other makes that do a round fit or that generally fit quite round? I've tried a couple of adjustable ones (Uvex and One K) but by the time the fitter had tightened them up enough to declare them safe, those ones hurt as well. The Charles Owen I tried was a skull cap (Pro II Plus) but I don't currently do cross country so peaked is fine too. Any suggestions welcome.

Might be worth trying a bigger size with a thicker liner? Gatehouse do lovely helmets with a variety of liner sizes which make a huge difference.

The only hat they fits my round head is the Charles Owen Competitor. However I was told that they are no longer making them...which makes me very sad as nothing else fits as nicely so not sure what I'll do when I need to replace it!

I have a really rectangular head and get pain at the temples, are you sure you need rounder? Mind you I've not ridden properly in years so my Dublin Onyx probably isn't even available now!

It isn’t! They were still around in Australia when I looked a few years ago, as they were the only hat not to give me headaches. I was told it just wasn’t cost effective for them to test to the new standards, even though they satisfied all the Australian standards so safe enough to use here.

I found that a Troxel Sierra fit me - and as I don’t compete that was fine - however I’m not sure they are available now either..

I just cant wear a CO hat. They don't suit my head shape and give me a frightful headache within about half an hour of having one on. My daily hat is a Champion Ventair which fits well.

pS ... I too have a lovely CO Fiona hat (navy velvet) which I cant wear if anyone wants it .....

Sadly, the Fiona isnt a legal std hat from the 2021 season commencing.
Useful for in hand classes but thats all.

Like the poster above, the only hat I’ve ever found comfortable is the CO competitor. My head is the same shape as Stewie Griffin in family guy and I get awful temple pain in anything else.

I have to have a size too big and then padding at the front so the back to front is smaller than side to side…

I have a CO round proII with extra padding at the back
my head is not round, it is distinctly oval (as confirmed by my bike helmet brand) so Im unconvinced by said roundness.

I've otherwise been a gatehouse/ standard CO shape though prone to pressure at the front and a gap at the back over time. I've never got a champion anywhere near my head.
The bike kask helmets are very round but not sure about the equine version.

Thank you so much everyone! Looks like I need to try on some Champion skull caps (and maybe a Charles Owen Competitor too). Anyone know if the peaked Champion hats fit similarly, or are they more oval?

Funnily enough, I have wondered if it's kind of square/rectangular before... do heads or hats even come in that shape?!

The CO R2000 did, as did the Dublin Onyx, and I think the Champion Ventair was a decent fit but a lot more money. This was 15 years ago at least, but everything else was too short front to back for me, and/or had major gaps down the sides. It's why I slightly roll my eyes at people talking about brands of hats, rather than models.

Champion fits me better and less tight around the temples. Does get a tiny bit big front and back over time which makes me think I’ve maybe got more of an oval shape ?‍♀️

Really? I didn't know that. Might as well chuck it away then as I cant wear it, it's no use for competitive riding and far too nice for every day use. What a shame ......

So... I've now tried a Champion peaked hat (ventair evolution) and that is way too narrow on the temples. Gives me a cracking headache! Do their skull caps fit rounder? I should probably have gone straight to that but the peaked just looked nice so I thought I'd give it a shot.
