Even if I become a size 0- am I still too tall?

My husband has some swan neck spurs for his massive long legs. He used to show and do dressage with a 15.1hh cob and needed the spurs to make contact. They did well although only unaff and never had negative comments from either showing or dressage judges about their size. The cob would have made it VERY clear if he hadn't been happy. There is a picture in my albums on here of them together I think.

The swan neck spurs are Mark Todd ones, unsurprisingly!

Work a treat, but he did once get a showing judge trying to tell him that he had his spurs on upside down....

I think you both look great together :D

I once had an experienced horseperson say my 13.2hh was too small for me, im 5'1" and at the time around 8.5 stone

She was one of those people who believed all adults should have horses & ponies were for children. Me and my boy had far more fun than she ever did, she was too afraid of her BIG horse to have a canter out on a hack, oh and for the record she was a similar build to me, on a 16.2, legs didn't even pass the saddle flaps, he was quite a chunky built horse.

Saw her several years later, first thing she said when i said i'd bought another pony, was oh is it bigger? i couldn't resist and said no! :D oh and for the record she now rides a 14.2hh cob ;)

OP you are NEITHER TOO HEAVY OR TOO TALL for your ponio.Ignore the stupid woman shes talking utter rubbish and is probebly jelious.
I remember in the 80s being told I was too big for my 13.3hh section C pony and I was 5ft 4
and only 9 stone. He carried me fine.Eventually he went on loan and the family bought him and loved him until he died many years later.
Ponio is lovely and you look like your having fun together!!! ENJOY

I don't think you look big at all. I'm 5'8(ish) and 12 stone, I ride a 14.3hh cob and although my legs are a bit long for his 'depth' and I sometimes use my calves for leg aids, he carries me all day out hacking without breaking a sweat and 'back lady' has never found a problem with his spine or pelvis! If you were too heavy she'd let you know :) you look lovely together and she's beautiful xxx

Please dont try and aim for a size 0, IMO its not attractive, ladies are meant to have curves, not be straight and down reminders of an extermination camp from WWII.
You also look fine on your pony, I cant remember if you said what breed she was, but remember they are built to fulfil a purpose.
I ride Arabs and although todays Arabs are being bred to be bigger 15.2/16hds their original height was around 14hds and they were classed as a war horse in the desert. I'm only 5'1" and am always being asked to take on ponies to school/break. I just think it is ingrained into our thoughts that you ride a pony till your about 16 and then progress onto horses. My thoughts are you ride at a height you are comfortable with.
Lots of luck in the future with her, is there an earlier story to this though that I have missed out on

Ask her whether she would like to go and talk to Mark Todd or William Fox Pitt about riding horses that are too small for them as they both ride horses that they look much bigger on than you do on your pony

Can I just point out nicely that size 0 (which is an american size anyway and equates to uk size 4) is perfectly healthy for some people. You do not have to look 'starving' to fit into a size 0. I do get a bit fed up on threads here when people end up 'bashing' slim people  It can be just as hurtful as comments on being overweight...

what?!!!

im "too tall" for my horse (shes 15.2 and im all legs - id look better on somehting around 16.2 tbh)

but i dont care im happy im not too heavy etc....

if your happy and not heavy (you certainly dont look it!) wheres the issue!?!

There is a picture of Mark Todd riding Charisma in his biography that show them doing dressage, the shot is side on and you can clearly see both feet dangling in thin air! Charisma was 15.2hh and had mainly TB breeding, Toddy is 6ft2".

If they can get round a 4* then I don't think us mere mortals have to worry about being a bit on the tall side for our horses as long as we aren't too heavy!

OP

so many things wrong with this pic........ but to give you an idea...

im too tall for her......i dont actually care - she carries me well and when i ride properly with better stirrup length we can pull it off :D i don tthink im too heavy for her tho :)

but i dont care what people think x

Just a few comments on the yard by a very experienced horse woman along the lines of shes turning into a lovely pony now but shes just on the small side for you,

You know I think you two look great together. But I wonder what the lady on your yard would make of me and Herbs. I'm 5ft2 and Herbs is about 12.2hh - 13hh :p I know i'm to tall but atleast it's not far to the ground when he's being a bugger ;) :p :D :D :D

You look fine!
If anyone is too tall it's me :D
I'm 5'11 and pony is only 13.3 :o we go show jumping, pony club, cross country (no hunting but that's because he's a nutcase!)
