Just experienced a lurcher bad point! 2 of mine have just had a really nasty fight over a rabbit that one caught. It spilled over from fighting over the rabbit to just plain fighting and Pie has 4 punture wounds round her throat, Not serious but could have been a lot worse if I hadn't thrown myself between them. They've had baths to wash the blood off and are now curled up on the bed together but never forget that however soft they appear there is a lean mean killing machine in there!

Anyone else had experience like this?

When whippets race they wear muzzles, there is a reason. In the heat of the moment they can get angry. One of mine gets very cross if she doesn't get to the "quarry" first .

Not really - I just gave my two the baby rabbit's legs which the cats left me as a present on the doorstep this morning.

They were like 'what the hell is this? Am I supposed to eat it or something?!'

Methinks I need to expand their diet!!!

Yep, mine do this over a ball or frizby, they get so bloody irrate and don't take to kindly to the other getting to the ball or frizby first after they have ran at the speed of light to get there

Thanks......I think!

Another bloody rabbit this morning.........I would be a very proud mummy and boast of my dogs hunting prowess if these buns weren't already crawling on their last legs with mixi

It's not so much a magnificent chase and kill, more a scoop up and wait for them to die naturally.

I still remember my two whippets fighting over food (just their normal breakfast) one day... two bitches and they really, really meant it

I had never really seen dogs fighting properly before (being brought up with CKCS which just dont fight

) and I had to resort to pretty rough methods to seperate them

Since then I have been a bit paranoid about my lurchers/greyhounds fighting so I try my best never to give them the chance - thats not saying you were in the least bit remiss OOTP, just trying to say I am paranoid now

Having been bitten by Talisker a few times due to one thing or another I know (as I'm sure many lurcher owners do) that they have very strong jaws
