Event Horse... 3 Star.. Price

You should probably ask millicent, she knows these things. It will depend if you want something on its way up, or coming back down so to speak. I should think if something was doing really well at 3* and looked a viable 2012 prospect it will be phone number prices!

Depends how old, soundness & how straightforward etc. But for a proven 3* horse that ticks all the boxes and that isn't 'past it' you could easily be looking at £50,000+ (you would be lucky to find a good one that 'cheap' too!). Good place to look is on Rachel Wakefield's webiste- www.uptowneventing.com- she has a lot of foreign agents who could put you in touch with some nice horses abroad.

Try 80K plus!! (around 10-13yo, good record, will pass the vet) Foreign ones are very expensive.... more so than in the UK.

I have my doubts that William is worth that! I was offered 20k for him after Breda..... For 80k I would have certainly given it thought!

20k?!! Were they having a laugh?!!

No, they weren't. He has an excellent xc record but his dressage and show-jumping are average. They could be much improved with a good rider but that's hypothetical. But yes, 20 was too low for me to think about selling him!

thanks i figured that kind of money.A friend i know has owned racehorses and is considering buying an event horse but he wants one at a decent level so pref with 4 star potential. He asked me what kind of money and if i knew of anything....i cn't say i know many like that for sale!

If its any help i worked on a pro eventers yard and he sold an up and coming horse that had been placed at 2* with scope and talent to go on for 80k! So i would have thought more than that if you're looking for badminton potential!

Hi,

I know a 3* horse on the way down so to speak who sold for 65k with past injuries. He had a very good Dr and SJing record, but was never consistent at 3*.

I would think a proven 3* horse with the strong possibility of being a good 4* horse would be upwards of 100k.

I know a trainer who is going to look at a horse today with a good 3* record, qualified for 4*, for 500K

I tried really hard to get him to tell me who it was but he wasn't drunk enough

i know a good 3*** horse who came from France who was around £150k.

since competed at Badminton, Olympics etc.

now on 2nd UK based rider but hasn't been seen out for a while due to lameness issues (which were rumoured at time of sale).

Thanks I don't think he will baulk at these kind of prices he has paid big money for racehorses in the past...although v unlikely to get the same kind of prize money!

Christ that much for Land Vision, it makes me queezey, Ollie and Dan would have been laughing all the way to the bank, He was a cheapo baby!

I guess horses sell for as much as people will pay.

interestingly when i saw Land Vision at a clinic with MT he said he'd had to give it a lot of time off- basically to sort the basics out- imagine spending 250k on something that essentially still needed a lot of work
