Event horse breeders?

I'm semi-looking (as in, if the right horse came along, I'd buy it but no rush) to buy a young horse to back and bring on to event. If at all possible, I'd like to buy direct from the breeder so I can have a look at the dam and start it myself. I don't mind how young it is as currently have 2 horses to compete.

Can anyone recommend me a decent sportshorse breeder to go to? I'm after a Thoroughbred-ish type horse, preferably Irish, but I'd be open to all suggestions. I'm not after a world class horse, just something good-natured that could event up to Novice, maybe Intermediate at a pinch.

And while I'm on the subject, has anyone here bought anything from the Billy Stud? I like the look of their youngsters but wondered how much they are and what they're like?
 
we do exist... small breeders!!! have had my stallions bloodline for 35 years had his mum and and grand mum and have been acting like pimp for him buying wel bred sexy girls 4 him and hes been having really good youngsters all big and good movers and all can jump regularly jump out there paddocksfrom a young age !!all have their dads wonderful temperament but credit crunch not helped ... small breeders need good riders to help make their stallions name but be unbiased about the ENGISH BLOODLINES buy britsh please, well done u not wanting all warmblood good luck xxx

Also look into the 'Stormhill Stud' very much a hobbie breeder, but she happens to have bred some VERY smart horses, Just put 'Stromhill' into the BE search for results thing, and you'll see what she has bred

if you look at the stats from BE for their 6 and 7 year olds last year which is a really good indicator as to what is doing well on the up .Majority are bred in Ireland

Barbera Hatton from Slyguff stud would be an excellent place to start 00353 866 080311

Her knowledge is encyclopedic and has about a dozen or so to look at as well as the stallions and mares
 
Vin Jones is breeding some smart youngsters bred specifically for the eventing job - I can't remember the stud prefix off the top of my head (getting old

) but someone on here will fill in the gap I'm sure...
 
Sat next to vin at the british breeding awards at the weekend - very interesting man. His all begin with Tre....
 
I bought my horse from a local breeder (County Durham) and they use Louella Stud's stallions. They usually sell them as 3 or 4 year olds, but managed to get mine as a 2 year old. They do a bit showing with them from being a yearling, so you know they're well handled. Last I heard they were selling the full sister to my horse - not sure how much they wanted for her. She is TBXID by Primitive Star out of TB mare. They usually advertise in H&H - if you want any info let me know?

louella stud- youngsters with eventing royalty in their blood and at very reasonable prices.
i paid under £2k for a Primitive Proposal weanling out of a Criminal Law/ Gort Boy mare.
