Lovely Northamptonshire again!

I am seriously thinking of putting my mare in foal, ideally to breed an eventer for myself. She is being pretty difficult at the moment (rushing, underreacting, overreacting) and tbh i am pretty convinced it's caused by an underlying niggling physical problem that the vets haven't found, and i don't want to spend thousands finding out if 18 months off might well let it settle down. She's eventing tomorrow but depending on how it goes, she might become a mum for a while! I know it's getting late for this year though, so I want to have a few ideas lined up.
best conformation pic I have:
DSCF0996-1.jpg

She's 16.3, full TB by Alderbrook x Good Thyne mare. Moves straight, close behind though. Good scopey jump and very very brave.
Conf crit very welcome please.
priorities for stallion:
Must have excellent feet and ideally pass this on. (i know this discounts most TBs. Are there any out there who pass on good feet?!) i have a homebred by Fleetwater Opposition with the best feet i've ever seen, is this a typical trait he passes on?
Good neck - hers isn't the best.
Good movement - she's active behind but not much happens in front!
Her temperament is great, she's an absolute darling to do in every way, but her trainability isn't - especially at the moment.
I love coloureds but I'd rather breed a great youngster than a less-than-great coloured...! What would be the best coloured out there to suit her.
A good NH sire with excellent feet (?! if possible) would be an idea, so foal could be dual purpose, as she has good NH breeding i've been told, but i am a total novice when it comes to TB breeding, so any advice very welcome.
Many thanks. All advice very very gratefully received.

One stallion I would recommend is Rachelle comet , Hes over here though . Has been producing some lovely youngstock , Missy my youngster is by him and showing lovely movement, trainabilty is second to none , Only_Me's merlin is also by him , Shes doing super with him .

Most of his progeny is eventing or in the showing world .

I think he is lovely but then I am biased

Chilli Morning.

Don't know why I keep suggesting him. But he's gaining in popularity, and is now going to some advanced mares. A friend has two or three by him (I think they're two year olds now.... although could be three. where does time go). And they were winning their inhand classes at county level easily. So obviously well put together.

He has a super temprement, and is nicely put together.

I'd second Future Illusion - fabulous stallion.

Othe sires I can think of that would suit off the top of my head would be:

Weston Justice - almost pure TB and an Advanced/3/4 star eventer himself
Caretino Glory

Coloured stallion wise I would suggest Amour G. He is GORGEOUS. Fully graded BWBS, he is by Goshka Ringo whose stock are just growing in popularity.

Depends on your budget and whether you want a natural covering/AI. She can't have a registered TB foal unless it's a natural covering, IIRC.

I really like the look of One More Tiger for a TB stallion. Have seen some really nice Jumbo stock - maybe one of his offspring like Jigilo? Stravinsky is a TB with super paces for dressage.

If you want to go down the National Hunt route, I like Alflora stock (nice feet!) and I really love Silver Patriarch but can't comment on the feet but what a horse and super pedigree!

Silver has been retired from stud as no longer fertile - possibly due to only having one testicle now, as he had one removed when I was working with him in Newmarket. I very much doubt that there would be any frozen from him and I can't say I rate his feet much.

We have 2 TB mares wchich we have used Sambertino on (a few times) We have had over the last couple of years 2 bay fillies, one of which was 1st premium and Top eventing foal at the futurity Sunnybank 2007. This year we have had 2 super coloured colts. Sambertino has proven enenting progeny out there doing the job as well as dressage progeny. Sambertino x with a TB gives you around a 73% tb foal.. If you dont get a coloured baby you still get the baby who will go out there and 'do the job'! i would definately recommend him. I have met him, he has a stunnning temp and is stunning to the eye also! If you want to see what foals we have had from him pics on website www.kennifordstud.co.uk

If you like your FO then I'd use him. They all have good strong feet but most have one foot bigger than others and quite a few seem prone to navicular (3 I've known including a 4yr old)
I wouldnt use Future Illusion until he has evented and proven himself but you could consider using Opposition Heracles who is a better jumper, from what I've seen.

Primo Pageant looks lovely. TB, Very nice type and has been standing successfully in Ireland.
Have met a couple of Oppositions with odd feet, but others with matching pairs.

As your only in South Lincs perphaps come and pay us a visit.
www.groomsbridgestud.com and meet the lovely Sambertino plus our two TB boys Groomsbridge May I and High Tension.
We also do the collections for AmourG although he isnt here at present .
But plenty of eventy type babies to look at as well as the boys.

What about Vetcha- he passes on everything your looking for.

Also quite rate the NH sire Alflora- more and more of his stock are coming out eventing, plus Terry Boon has one Alflora youngster thats doing well. Had one in our yard and it was soo trainable and jumped like a bunny, jumped too rounded to be any good at jump racing so was also sold to an eventer, but ....he had dodgy feet and I never thought he was truely sound. Dont know about other Alflora feet. He has bold lad in the second gen which would be where the jumping ability and trainability comes from- if you jump any horse with bold lad even as far back as the 3rd generation you will instantly know its a bold lad, SO straight and easy to a fence and they just ping!

Also like Beneficial, there are/were 3 of his in the yard, all absolute pocket rockets and v.trainable, lovely clean jumpers and very natural with their flatwork schooling. They have a spazzy side to them tho, but it was amazing how similar they all were. Beneficial has some TB lines in him that do well eventing- high top ( miners lamp/poetic justice) and my babu ( Bruce Davidson's JJ Babu etc ) Good feet.

I'm not sure if he's still breeding, but i've got a 5 year old TB by Sovereign Water. He was the 3rd best NH stallion in 2005 i believe! Mine's got good feet, he's quite small at 15.2hh, but with a good amount of bone, and is a real chunky type compact TB. He's as bold as anything, very trainable, but slightly quirky, and have been told the quirkiness is a trait of his sire, but they settle down to make good eventers or NH horses. They also all have a real talent for jumping, mine was clearing 1.20m grids as a 4 year old, and i spoke to someone else with two, and they were doing exactly the same. PM if you want any photos of him, or want to know anymore!

Can I ask why does the stallion have to have evented or proven eventing background? I would have thought it more important that the conformation type fits & if old enough the offspring have shown promise. I only ask because there are offspring eventing who are either from a ex racing TB stallion or one that is competed in dressage/SJ'g. Boldness is not always passed on & that is one of the main aspects of an eventer. They need good paces, bold enough for XC & careful enough for SJ'g. Jendali had excellent feet for a TB by the way. They dont do AI & I think it maybe too far to travel.

We stand Primo Pageant and Billy Be Cool. They are both event stallions but have completely different qualities. Have a look at the southern sport horse center website

One of my house sitting clients has an amazing 2 yo by Goshka Ringo, nice temperament and good feet. Her mother was an Advanced dressage mare 7/8 tb, very sharpe and had crappy flat feet, always breaking up, had to have aluminiun egg bars on all thro it pregnancy cos heels collapsed, dire feet all its life. Obviousley its un broken so dont know full temperament, but its a gem to handle, its conformation is near perfect, done well showing in hand so far.
Or put her to a full Irish Draught you might even breed yourself a middle weight show hunter!!!! Showing just your barrow Iam sure !!! Lol

I have first-hand experience of both Primo Pageant and Billy Be Cool. They are both stunning stallions with wonderful temperaments. I put my coloured mare in foal to Billy Be Cool and am thrilled with my beautiful filly foal who is now a month old. Fred and Lisa are really knowledgeable and helpful, especially to first-timers like me! You can see more details at www.southernsporthorsecentre.co.uk Good luck!

Saw Billy be Cool when I was at Pippas last year and he is stunning - sadly OH won't use anything without seeing some 3yo first -sigh.

National hunt - terimon, prolific sire of good national hunt horses - getting a bit old now. My boy by him has good feet and movement for a TB and is so laid back and gentle he's practically horizontal, but really tries for you all the time (except when he's sleeping flat out in the hedge!) Not sure he's very fashionable any more tho x

There was a stunning Beneficial horse at Ascot Sales this week, 6yr old which had been pointing. Have to say it was a very good looking horse - wouldnt have looked out of place on a racecourse, eventing or in a show ring. Moved well in walk and trot - didnt look too stressy, but obviously we couldnt see it canter and jump.

Magic104 I would argue boldness is a characteristic that is passed on. My boy Weston Justice was very straight and bold across country as was his mother who he looked very like, he only took his colour from Criminal Law. If Im looking at TB sires, if they have not run I research what the dams and sires lines have done, that is the beauty of the TB lines they are very transparent.

That was not quiet what I was saying. When it comes to a stallion does it matter that it has not evented, so long as it has the attributes to produce an eventer. And I would think it a correct assumption that a horse would have to have boldness along with a want to win to push himself upfront in racing. Not every racehorse takes to the bumping that can go on. I am not convienced though that every horse will pass on boldness, I think the mare has more to do with that. That is just an observation, perhaps someone knows of research done on how much input the stallion has on character.
