I have known it has been coming for a while but my eventer is being booked in at Newmarket next week to go for a tie back operation, which means several months out of action. My other mare has just had a foal and i can't afford to buy another horse at the moment.

Is it worth me advertising for a loan horse? I have competed up to 1* level, have regular lessons with a BE accredited trainer and wouldn't mind a project horse. Or am i just being very optimistic that i might find something?

Any advice/opinions appreciated!

I haven't really been looking, but just keeping ears and eyes open for the same thing, as my mare has been out since April, and it may be permanent. I haven't seen many around, just lots of "wanted ads" from young riders on horsequest, looking for the same sort of thing. Good Luck in your search though.

p.s. I know Cundlegreen was looking for someone to loan or lease her 4y/o unbroken mare (who is well bred). Don't know if thats any help.

There was someone on CR earlier who has a 17yo ex advanced eventer. Currently fit and ready doing BE100 and looking for a loan home. I know he's a bit older but if you're not wanting to do big stuff it might tide you over. Sound like a lovely horse. Will try to find the post...

What a shame you're not based nearer! I'm looking for a good competition rider to share my 16HH boy near London but not having much joy finding the right sort of rider. He's may "horse of a lifetime" and to be honest if I hadn't bred him there's no way I could have afforded to buy him - absolute dream to ride and loves the work. Only 5 years, so lots of time to go out and compete and has spent this year concentrating on dressage ,so flat work is all in place ready for the fun to begin. But in the catch 22 situation, he's not evented yet to be of enough interest to an experienced event rider, but has far too much talent to be spent happy hacking. Luckily he's doing well dressage so will hopefully attract the attention of somebody who wants to progress with this.

Have you had any luck placing wanted ad's? I'm in a similar situation and just started looking for a loan horse whilst mine is having a break through one thing and another but just can't seem to find the right horse.
Good luck though, they are out there its just a case of finding the right horse/ owner.

Allypally - it is such a shame i'm not closer! I read your other post and he sounds fab! Hope you find someone nice to help you with him.

EllieK - not had any luck so far, going to put an ad up at the equestrian centre where i have lessons tomorrow. I know a friend of mine got an intermediate eventer on loan as the owner had a baby but didn't want to sell. Think you have to be a bit lucky though!! Good luck.

I have since been told Im having an operation to sort out my back so talking along the same lines of recovery as your horse if not longer- Im looking for a rider or some one to take her on loan- Im in Hampshire- shes 11 yo 15.1 tbx jumped pre novice and disco- scope to do a hell of a lot more schooled her over novice / intermediate xc fences- jumped 1.50 courses at home her dressage leaves alot to be desired, although she can do it she just throws tizzy fits and decides that everything else is far more exciting- not a very good advert but you said project too :) she just needs bringing back into it ! pm me if your intrested :)

Shame it is not next year as I may be looking for some one to lease my 1* 9 yr old mare whilst the stunt rider has her knee operated on :(

shame it wasnt slightly earlier as i know yeeharr rider was looking for someone to compete her eventer. All I can say is trawl the ads in the hope of finding something, either that or contact a few of the eventer 'names' in your area. You might not get the chance to compete but if you want to keep your hand in im pretty sure they will appreciate the help and you dont know where those roads wil lead you!!
