I went to watch the Burnham Beeches ODE over the weekend & was pleasantly surprised at the height of the Intro XC course!

I've always loved the thought of doing eventing but the thought of the huge jumps has sent my legs to jelly!

But they actually didn't look that bad!

So maybe i could give eventing a go in the future!

The max height for the SJ & XC courses are 3'0 arent they? (I've been reading up on the BE website

) Are the dressage tests for Intro, Prelim? Or higher? Also i noticed on the scoreboard next to a couple of results it said HC, what does that mean/stand for? Thanks

Intro dressage would be about equivalent to Prelim yes. Just cirles and change of rein, very boring!
HC means Hours Concours - ie. they are running non-competitively because they're not eligible under the rules but want a 'practice' run.

Ok Thanks, the tests look very uncomplicated. Ok next Q, is it very expensive to event? And are some courses easier than others even at Intro? Thanks

sadly i think it is very expensive to event...if u r talking just intro it is about £50 and then £10 starting fee along woth travel and horse maintenance and membership!!! also intro sj is max of 3 foot 2 i think!

Yes and yes!!

Eventing is not cheap!! Some courses are nice, some not so but all generally straight forward courses at Intro.

Go for it!

You could always do it on a day ticket, this would keep the cost down a bit. I think you should definately go for it, you only get one chance at this life, you're a long time dead, so just do it

(That's what my husband says to me when he wants to buy a new car anyway

)

I have decided to have a go at it for the 1st time next month. Not seen the dressage test or XC course yet. We are supposed to have a Pre-Intro at my place in April, and that is the target!

Cool, I def want to give it a go, something to work towards!

I'm currently doing unaff dressage comps on my loan horse which i'm really enjoying & am going to start hunter trials this autumn. I think the day ticket option will be best for me
smile.gif
I'm not planning on doing it hard-core just one or two a season perhaps. But then saying that, once i get the bug i'll probably want to go out every weekend!!

Its only the SJ that worries me. We can do dressage fine and XC does not seem to phase him. We do have issues regarding SJ's though...

Practise, practise, practise, the more you do, the less frightening it becomes.

Its not frightning, I just dislike SJ'ing and so does Charlie. Too little space, too much standing around, horrible warm-up areas. Plus, you have to dress like a waiter!
