Well, firstly I wish you luck and success in your dream....many of us would love to be able to make a living doing what we love

I think there are some serious flaws in your calculations though...You state that eventing is more expensive than SJ'ing. I would argue that point. Agreed your initial registration with BE is slightly more than with BSJA...but not that much more in the overall picture. You state that a BE event costs £50 / £60 to enter, whereas a BSJA class is around £12/£15. However, what you must remember is that you will generally jump two classes at every BSJA show you attend...plus medical insurance....so that will be approx £30 per show in entry fees per horse. The difference is you will be jumping 2 or 3 times per week if you are producing youngsters so your entry fees will be nearer £60/£90 per week

Okay, you *might* occasionally win your entry fee back...or perhaps a little more (although as you are producing youngsters you will probably just be taking things steady and going for DC's).

I really don't want to put a downer on your dream, but apart from those at the very top of the sport, I don't believe anyone in SJ'ing would say the prize money is anything more than a bit of jam on the bread.

What you will make your money from is dealing in horses, livery charges, a bit of teaching on the side, and perhaps from riding horses for other people. Of course at least two of those lines of income will require you to be fairly successful first, and the cost of getting that status will have to be borne by you.

Please don't read this post as trying to put you down. It is merely trying to put some reality to the dream. It can be done.....but it won't be easy

I dont read that past as putting me down at all

i know its just jam so to speak, cant remember if i said now or not but the overall plan is to have a competition yard with liveries and some horses in to sell as well as youngsters and then other rides as well...well thats the plan anyway!
And definately know it wont be easy, im not expecting it to be!
