I have a horse that isn't enjoying life with me, but still has so many good points and i'd like to see him given a chance eventing. He has a bold careful jump, and moves beautifully.
He owes me nothing, but I don't have the spare money to put him in a training yard. What would be the chances of finding someone who would give him a go? I don't mind loaning him, but how would that work legally in the eventing world, is it ok?
He is no novice ride, but neither is he dangerous, and he loves work. I'd be very proud to see him do well, but i'm wondering if i'm asking too much to find someone? Just musing through options and thought i'd ask.
Cheers.

You haven't really said what he's like, what experience he has (in any fields) how old he is and what his issues are - when you say he isn't enjoying life with you?

For instance, is he suitable for a teenager? Difficult to give you an opinion unless you give us a bit more to go on

Didn't want to be thought of as advertising! He's under ten, low mileage, jumped plenty of natural fences, little show jumping but will pop an oxer or upright with a coat/blanket on. Is bored with hacking out, and I can't see how I can give him the challenges I think he needs.
Can stick a buck in, but doesn't ever do more than one. And has only done it since the bored season set in! Yes, i'd say a decent teenager would be fine, he's not silly strong nor malicious. But the only people i've found who'd have him have been happy hackers..... Just wondered what the chances were of finding someone without a ride due to injury or something, that would give him a go.

You could probably find someone to compete him up to around Novice very easily - an amateur/fun rider, who can't afford to buy. People do look around for a loan horse if their horse has gone lame, for example. I am sure you would get some responses if you advertised him. You prob would not get a pro, though. Legally in the eventing world - fine. You would need to join BE as a member, in order to be registered as his owner. make sure you draw up a decent loan agreement, vet the loanee, etc.

there are always working pupils etc looking for horses on loan, and this way he would be under the aegis of an experienced Pro, which should limit what could go wrong. lots of ads along these lines on horsequest etc. definitely worth a try, as long as he has a good jump and a decent brain!

Kerilli, the brain is there believe me!! Not been on horsequest so will hop over and have a look. I don't know whether he'd be a superstar, but I have to say i'd like to see him given the chance. He could always come back if not! We just have too much on to think of eventing, I spend the summer driving and I can't do both.
Thank you for the ideas and info.

I would have def considered him a year or two ago. I have mine on loan and event him. He came with loads of problems but is going great guns now and we're in our second season BE. I don't think you would have much problem finding a great home for him!

He would suit me down to the ground when I come back to the UK. My current horse, who is with me for life, can't be jumped & it would be great to find a nice horse to loan who I could event, sj and have a general play around with. I'm sure you'll find the right person for him.
