how often do you jump your horses? i tend to jump mine once a week, sometimes less, depening what i am doing....
for the rest of the time do you do dressage, hack or canter them?
im trying to mak sure ive got the right balance between SJ,dressage and keeping him fit by cantering...so what is a usual week for you and your horse?
thank you

i jump once a week maximum - generally every friday - hacks out 2-3 times a week and schools or goes on the pessoa the other days - i take him out to shows or / long distance at least twice a month and i always change between bd, bsja and xc schooling - (just about to have a little go at a little ode - thanks for your advice on there!) I find my boy becomes totally brain dead if i do too much of one thing so the variation really works well for us and he's always happy and willing to do anything i ask of him that way

I jump my horse atleast once a week, sometimes twice (once in a lesson and sometimes once by myself. My horse needs to be jumped though otherwise he is far far far to fresh, I think he loves it abit too much!

monday - day off
tuesday - hack or flatwork schooling
wednesday - flatwork schooling
thursday - hack
friday - jumping schooling
saturday - hack
sunday - hack or compete

i think it depends on the individual horse.one of mine is very difficult to jump as he likes to do things in his own style,so i often canter over poles one day, hack and then pop him over a cross pole the next and jump a course the following day so i am not over jumping him but can get my eye in.all my others usually jump once a week unless a problem occurs

I usually jump once a week, including comps and lessons.
If I'm having an issue I might increase that to twice a week, wouldn't go to more than that though.
With the more established horse it might be less, as when she's going well I don't find we always get much out of jumping at home, so she might go 3 weeks between events say, and jump just once in between.

I jump Lark upto 3 times a week as I find she thrives on regular jumping and tends to gain confidence the more she does it. Usually 2 jumping schooling sessions then once out hacking over the jumps around and about. She isn't bored though she tends to perk up once the poles come out. I incorporate dressage into the flatwork and do odd dressage competitions. I suppose its whatever suits the horse though as I usually only ride about 3 or 4 times a week and she is still pretty fit.

I also jump about 3 times a week...

Mid-week i tend to do gymnasitc work - small grids and pole work, then a lesson on a saturday and compete on the sunday. Keeps him consistent and my eye in!

Does depend on the horse though. As my past horse would get stuffy if i over did it.

ok, i think i probably need to do more hacking, i only hack him about 1/2 a weeks. more often once.....i have started to jump him more often now on really spooky things to try and get him to stop being so spooky! i am going to start bringing poles into my flatwork a lot more, as he finds flatwork very boring and i can get about 30mins of good ish work, 20 of nice work and after that hell just give up.... dressage lessons take a lot of work from me and my instructor to get him concentrating!!
thank you so much for all your help!

I never jump my 2 competition horses at home! I do jump the young pony maybe once a week but my other 2 established horses dont do any at home, they compete enough (BSJA & BE) that that alone keeps them ticking over and I find they never get stale this way. My riding routine is crap as I only have a paddock to ride in which means weather very much dictates what I can do. I hack round nearby fields but not on the road so Im quite limited in that sense, I mainly just do flatwork at home on days when the weather / ground is ok. Luckily all mine live out so they keep themselves pretty fit naturally!

I jump mine at least 3 times a week, he needs it to boost confidence and keep my eye in. I will alternate between schooling and then jumping or going for a wander and popping back into the arena to jump on the way back.

I tend to jump 1/2 times a week. But I went to a mary king demo in Feb and she jumps all her horse 2-4 times a week.. so I have tried to up my game following that revelation!
