I was thinking of going to the Eventers Showjumping at SLM on Sunday. My 6 year old horse has done very little cross country and but is show jumping confidently at 1 metre. Do you think that he would be ok to take to this? I havent been to one before, and was just wondering what type of jumps there will be? I am assuming that there will be some skinnies/corners etc? I was going to do the Pre Intro class which is 85 cms. Any info on this would be great. Thanks

I went last year and did the PN I think. Even though my mare is normally good show jumping and xc, for some reason she took a dislike to it all and catleapt over everything! Maybe because it was her first outdoor jumping for a few months...

Not very helpful I know, but it was well organised and yes, had skinnies and styles I think.

I think its blooming expensive for effectively clear round. Would not be my recommendation if you have a green horse as its all quite spooky and tricky. I prefer not to teach them to run out which I think some of the course encourages.

Thanks for your advice. I think you're right. I will have to practice some skinnies etc before I go to something like this. I also, didnt look at the cost!

I was at something similar to this at the weekend and the number of horses who jumped fine round the sj part and then were eliminated at either the first or second xc style jump was unbelievable.

I'd definitely have a practice over those types of fences first (skinnies, etc) before competing.
