Eventers - What boots do you use for XC?

Hi guys,
Well basically looking for some new hind boots for the XC phase of eventing. I'm really pleased with the woof wear elite eventing boots on the front, but the hind pair slip down and i'm just not impressed.

So what hind boots can you recommend/do you use? I'm looking for something that ideally has a non heating material and that is sturdy. WFP uses prolites (and i suppose he would know) but to me they just didn't look solid enough. What are your views and experiences?
 
Errrmmm, No boots! They are great, never slip or anything!

Ah i'm not brave enough to go without boots - especially when wearing studs having had a friend's horse put down after severly studding himself XC without boots. Also behind Rocks is v close and always lames himself knocking fetlocks without boots, so always has fetlock boots anyway but felt he needed something with a bit more protection going XC
 
No, I totally understand. I'm not keen on booting up for hunting, they seem to cause more problems than they solve, and when Badger manages fine with no boots all season hunting it seems a bit silly getting them out for XC, well when I'm only doing little stuff anyway. Didn't think about the studs.... Badger is sooo long I don't think he'd ever catch his front legs, I hope!

Nope they stay put on Goddy's legs even out hunting/blooodhounding. I ahve a medium pair behind, Goddy is 16.1hh and has "normal" irish horse bone!! He would prob get away with the large too, but would be concerned with possible slippage...you willneed a medium for Rocks i think as he is only 15.3?
 
Indeed I have, not eventing him until March so plenty of time to think about what boots to get but really unimpressed with the hind woof wear ones. Thought now would be better than ever to get them though because I have some money to spare, but in a months time i won't! lol
 
Not sure which event yet as will be up in nottingham and don't know the local events - but no doubt Polly will help me choose the perfect line up of first events! Over winter i'm hoping to do the indoor OT eventers challenge thing to keep him ticking over!

We're quite lucky actually in the area you'll be in....you're not 100miles away from us, and you've got Arena Uk and Vale view nice and close!!
 
Equiflect boots are v similar to prolites, and also have a v solid cannon bone protector in the hind boots. I can highly recommend, our grey mare's have had 3 seasons eventing/hunting so far. They will even make up non standard sizes if required. Med or large would fit a 15.3.

KatB - I forgot you were going to be so close to me!! I'm forseeing XC schooling sessions! Do you know if there is a centre holding the Oliver Towned eventers challenge nearby?

I saw the OT thing, only thing that puts me off is that one of them is at a local venue of ours, which struggles to fit a course of 8 fences in it... so not thinking it can be that great??

Yep for the OT there is Brooksby college which isnt far. Arena do JAS, and Vale View do indoor Sjing/XC and Dressage all winter and they are 10mins away from Polly's yard. We also have 4 or 5 good XC schooling places within an hour radius with most being within 30mins!

I just thought it would be a good way of keeping him ticking over - hes going to be affiliated dressage aswell and i'll do BSJA on a ticket (Can't afford to affiliate all three so had to drop one!) but the OTEC seemed a bit more interesting
 
Yep Oasby is THE first intro in this area!! Lovely straight forward course. There is then Stafford which is nice! When do you move? there is an unaff ODE at brooksby over their BE course on the 23rd of September?!

I'm not moving up til 29th september but prob won't be out and about with the neddy til end of october as want to settle in and what have you!

We use new boots, easy to put on and stood up to two years so far. Sister uses prolite, bit more awkward but a bit more strong
 
Have to admit found the sabre leather event boots brillant. My set have done about 7 seasons are in great nick and protect and fit really well. Expensive but as I say they really last.
 
I use prolites too, they are fab, really good protection, and still scrub up looking brand new.
Would love the sabre xc boots, but they are even more pricey!
 
i can't believe no-one's mentioned Style boots. very good tendon/cannon strike pad (rock hard), very padded, don't absorb water. front ones never slip, and last really well. back ones can slip if you don't do them up quite tight, though.
i like the fact that they're more padded than the NEW boots... if the horse hits a fence in front xc, i want him to have a bit of cushioning and not be bruised and sore. i even use them for the sj on something that is very very careful, or on very nervy youngsters that panic if they hit a fence, as the boots take the sting out and decrease the worry!
