Eventers - what would you change?

As a RC committee member and team organiser I spend a lot of time helping out already. Sometimes I feel I spend more time helping than riding and I might end up choosing between BE & RC if it came to that.

Because it is £20 to join a RC and a minimum of £200 to join BE. What are you paying the extra £180 for plus higher entry fees?

I do actually volunteer at BE events - although I do not BE.

I think the rules on withdrawls is wrong. I BSJA and I entered the Blue Chips this year, I couldn't make it and told them a week beforehand. Blue Chips ended on a saturday, I got my refund cheque on the following monday.

BSJA rules are that you can withdraw for any reason 48 hours before an event and you will get a 50% refund.

I got told to leave the arena and there was no offer of jumping anything else - the offer of popping a fence to end on a good note would be welcomed, and I dont want more than two attempts I would have just like one trot over a simple fence to end so the horse didnt get to just stop then get to go back out the arena. It was not tannoyed at the event I went to.

And before anyone else says it - before that event I had NEVER had more that one stop SJ so it was not like I was trying to fix an issue at the event or work through know issues with regards to SJ - it was an issue just happened on the day!

In that case it was very bad form from the event you were at. Next time just pop over a fence anyway - you are entitled to, no-one is going to tell you off for doing it :). I guess at the end of the day we are responsible for reading the rule book and knowing what we are allowed to do. To be honest I always assume that you can jump a fence anyway (at any unaff event etc) as you can at BSJA.

My horse is worse than that - unfortunatly you never know what mood he is going to be in when you go out until you get there. If he is in a tantrum you cant do anything with him. No matter how many times he goes out, he always will have an "off" day.

I think thats just it Wench - them horse types have a mind of their own and sometimes they like to have a tantrum or two!
 
Hes really odd... I did a PC ode last july with him, we were in 3rd after dressage, lord knows how, that never happens to me. Went SJ, didnt want to know. Took him XC he was absolutely foul, apart from the skinny log on a downhill slope he jumped no problem, another large log I got the totally wrong angle to, and a jump in between some trees that most other horses didnt like. Bad boy :(
 
I totally agree that the start fees are ridiculous - 2 horses in a prenovice can easily cost ANOTHER £20/£30 on top of entries and diesel etc.

Prizes can vary hugely. I agree that the person earlier who got a leadrope for 3rd in an intro have been very hard done by - its almost an insult that you put in all that hard work and schooling and all you get rewarded with is a rosette and a leadrope!!!!. A friend of mine won an Intro section at Hendersyde 2yrs ago and won a devoucoux xc breastplate --- YES one of their £180 green ones!!!!!

The withdrawls system also seems a complete joke, I have literally just 20mins ago withdrawn my horse from Strathallan this weekend as he is not quite right and was told by the entries sec that we would recieve NO refund - not even if i faxed a copy of the vets certificate! Seems very unfair to me. Also my other horse last year missed the whole of the second half of the season; he had only done 4 events up until june before injury meant that his season was finished. Surely BE can do something to refund membership in this case as they now have a half season registration so they could have given me that amount back > ANYTHING would have been greatly appreciated.

Being based in Scotland I am also feeling hard done by as we up here pay the same amount for entries as people down sout but dont have nearly the amount of choice as down south do. Up here events are limited so events get far far far too many people entering - so the have to ballot = MORE people unable to compete. Plus its always the one horse riders that get balloted - Ruth Edge and other professionals rarely get balloted!

Sorry for the long rant but I really do feel that something needs to be done!!
 
That sounds quite good to me, three prizes! I am looking forward to getting up to Novice even more now ;), my patey hat can come out of retirement and some excellent prizes :p
