My daughter is looking to start eventing and we just don't know where to start. I have registered both her and her horse on the BE Website and she has been going to the Cross Country practice days at our riding club.

The horse has jumped BSJA and goes really well over cross country, he falls down slightly on dressage but is improving.

A couple of months back she did Arena Eventing at Barton Equestrian Centre and came third and has done a couple of one day events at the Riding Club.

A couple of questions:

1. Do you think she is ready?
2. How do we start?
3. How much does it cost?

Many thanks for any advice given.

Hi if you go onto the british eventing website calander you can see all the events and when you click on the event they show you the cost to enter, you will also have a start fee to pay on the day. You should have also received a british eventing pack when you joined and that has all the deatils of how you start. Most events allow you to enter on line now.
It may be worth looking for a BE80 (t) which is the smallest class so pre intro and would be a nice way to break into it and build confidence.
Hope that helps :)

I would say she definitely sounds ready and if you have an 80 near you that would be an excellent place to start.
Decide whether you want to do on day tickets or join as full member - you can get a half year for horse after 1st July I think. You can do 4 events on a ticket to try it out if you prefer to do it that way.
Cost about £55 initially and then a start fee on the daycan be another £10-£15.
If you are in a busy eventing area be aware some events may ballot so you will not necessarily get in. Day ticket holders are the first to be balloted.

if you're feeling like a particularly nice mum (wish my mum were like you!!) then top tip is that if you definately want your daughter to get into an event, you can normally do that by offering to help at the event, as they are always crying out for helpers! :)

.... also, see if you can get her some lessons with someone that already events, who can also advise on fitness, etc. The British Eventing website has a list of accredited trainers that might help you.

Have fun!!

.

1. Yes :)
2. Look at the classes on the website and see the descriptions on there to see what level she would be suited to. The dressage tests are all on the download section and all the events on the event calender. This group on FB has some course photos so it will give you an idea of what the courses are like; http://www.facebook.com/pages/British-Eventing-Course-Photos/56205599733?ref=ts Also eventing worldwide is really helpful.. but you do have to be a member of that.
3. Cost can vary but Usually around 50 quid per class then a start fee which you pay on the day of around 10-15 pounds. Yes it is expensive but thats eventing for you!

As kelpie said make sure your daughter has fun she will no doubt enjoy it, but also don't feel intimidated by others there either.

Thanks for all the really helpful advise, it is much appreciated.

i think for now that she will go on a day ticket and will hope that the numbers are not too high and she does not get balloted. If its something she gets into then we will join.

We are in the Bury, Lancashire area and have transportation, so any recommendations for a trainer would be great.

We went to Skipton Horse Trials at the weekend and it looked great, so she is defiantly wanting to give it a try.

Is there any special kit she will need (she is 18 years old)? Will need to buy her decent a back protector as well as her old one is probably abit on the small side now, any recommendations?

I know the Kan body protectors are very good, but they are quite pricey. I have a Rodney powell one which is good and you can get it in your XC colours which is also cool:p
You will need a medical armband and a number bib also which are both available from the BE shop :)

Hi, I would recommend an air jacket if funds allow. They are running an 80T at Stafford in July but you will need to enter this week as the ballot date is on Friday.
