I was planning to event this year but looking at insurance that covers injuries during eventing-Having quotes in the regions of £800-1000per year and we are not willing to pay that considing i would be doing max of 6/7 events at 90/1m level, it genarlly doesnt seem worth it
I was just wondering does anyone else (who's horses are insured) event on insurance that doesn't cover eventing accidents cause surely not everyone pays this amount? (correct me if wrong), Or is it not worth the risk to event without the right insurance?
Thanks x

IIRC some companies include low level eventing - which is what you are talking about - in their general cover. I'm sure that with NU if my lad does as well as we hope and does go Intermediate I will have to up his insurance but up to and including Novice he's covered.

Most insurance companies dont charge higher rates for BE up to novice level so I am rather surprised by this.I would shop around and make sure they are quoting on the correct use group.Does this include loss of use which would add quite a bit to your standard premium. The value you put on your horse also has a big impact as a general rule of thumb for BE up to Intermediate(but not including) with LOU you can expect to pay 10-15% of the horses insured value.

Mine's insured with Petplan on one of their standard groups (group 4 or 5 I think) and that covers eventing to Novice, hunting, dressage to elementary and SJ to Fox (I think, don't SJ to that level so haven't checked).

The group below this covers to Pre Novice which is what you need. The eventing cover shouldn't make much difference to your current premium as it's usually in with the standard cover anyway. Who are you insured with?

Mine is only insured for a notional amount though as it's really the vet's fees I want covered.

Thanks will look around, mother does the insurance and from what she told me she said that even the uaff eventing takes the horses insurance upto a minuim of £800ish.
We got the quote from E&I insurance. will have a look at a few others
If for some reason we dont get insurance for eventing-Would you say its not worth the risk to event without it?
Thanks

If you think insurance is worth it in the first place I wouldn't exclude a major risk activity particularly as some insurance companies will say if you are training to event they won't cover that either.

My policy is with Amtrust very competitive and I think I pay less than that despite eventing to Intermediate level. They also have a good reputation for paying out unlike E&L

Avoid E & L like the plaugue - getting money out of them is like getting blood out of a stone. KBIS are good in my expereince and do not charge extra for eventing unless above pre-novice. Petplan and NFU also have a good reputation.

wouldn't touch E&L with someone else's very long bargepole!

I pay £40 a month with KBIS which covers me for hunting and eventing up to Novice level. I dont have loss of use though - that would bump up the premiums hugely.
