EVENTING IRELAND PRESS RELEASE. FOR RELEASE SUNDAY AUG 26TH 11AM
26/08/2007 10:25:55

Eventing Ireland has regrettably received the resignation of Performance Manager Lars Christensson, effective immediately, for personal reasons. In the two years he has held the position, Lars has made an enormous contribution to the sport and moved it to a new level. The executive and members of Eventing Ireland wish him every success in the future and thank him for his contribution to the sport at all levels.

At the request of Ben Jellet, Training & Performance team leader, an independent panel consisting of Eventing Ireland President Lord Carew, Jean Mitchell MBE, and Jessica Harrington, advised by chef d’equipe Brendan Corscadden and former World Games Medallist John Watson was convened to discuss the decision made by the Performance Manager to not fill a possible six places at the upcoming championships. The meeting reviewed the situation and found that in the overall best interests of Eventing Ireland and its long term plans and aspirations, the decision is valid and thus ratifies it in full.

For the imminent European Championships at Pratoni del Vivaro, the Chef d’Equipe Brendan Corsadden will be in charge, assisted by dressage coach Sandy Phillips and with the help of the High Performance Administrator, Joanne Hepburn. We wish them every success in the competition.

Oh no! What a diaster for the counry's eventing. He was really tipped to turn around their fortunes, and so far he was gradually succeeding, esp in his aim to insure fewer decent Irish Sport Horses left the country. Hopefully they will still be able to use Sandy Phillips' help, though.

I wonder what the "personal reasons" are.

I think he has recieved much praise for his dedication, so cant believe he would have been sacked.

I heard that there was a great deal of dissent concernning the team picked for the euro's and also the decision not to send individuals as well.
Would love to hear what other reasons (if any) there were.

and having said that, i have just seen that big J is now in at Blenheim on creagwarrior so love to know what is going on at team ireland as i know he was in, we did texting when he was selected, but he would hardly have entered a three day that starts BEFORE the euro's if he was still going would he? the plot thickens......

Team is>>

Sally Corscadden - Millridge Kalamar
Geoff Curran - Balladeer Alfred
Austin O'Connor - Hobby du Mee
Louise Lyons - Watership Down

I was sure Jonty Evans would have been in it after such a good Badminton, also Michael Ryan and Old Road who also have established 4* form.

However Lars seems to have gone for the more unknown article instead. I know another rider who was told two weeks ago he was def on the team (his owners were told to book their flights etc), andthen after Thirlstane told he wasn't.

Humm - It is all very intersting. Nobody ever leaves IMMEDIATELY for personal reasons you would always work a bit of notice. I suspect there he has either fallen out big time with some influential people or he was sacked for doing something bad.
