Eventing Ireland Starting fee

Yes, it may not seem like much but as it is, I won a class of approx 35 people, entry fee was 50, I got back 55, will the winnings actually cover entry and starting now?
Am shocked as I dont see the point of a 'starting' fee, we already pay entry fees!

I was under the impression it went to the ambulance charities in attendance St Johns or who ever. Maybe I am deluded!

It just seems to me like a way of putting up entry fees without putting up the entry fees (if you see what I mean). Someone's been learning from Gordon Brown's creative accounting methods if you ask me!

well it is kinder than putting up the entry fees.
with a startig fee at least you dont pay it if you withdraw where as if the upped the entry fees then you wouldnt get that back if you withdrew.

I gather that this fee actually goes to the landowner/organiser - many of whom actually run events at a loss.

well either way I don't mind, The organizers deserve medals and the charities are good causes but I know TripleSandH means. I wish it didn't cost so much and it would be nice if prize money covered entry fees.

indeed> and i saw no mention of prize money increasing< i would have though it only reasonable to think if you win you would at least make back your entry??

A recent event we did here was £15 start fee plus max level entry fee.

Oh blast, however it seems quite modest and in many ways I'm surprised that it has taken them this long to get round to introducing it.
