Hey Guys,

I'm wanting to do a BE80 with Joey at some point this year, but what I am confused about is the entries. I'm not a BE member, so when I enter a BE80 what passes do I buy? Do I need a horse pass and a rider pass as well? I'm so confused. BE's website isn't really helping either and I hoped maybe one of you could answer my question?

I also need a set of XC boots and was wondering which ones would be the best for protection and comfort? I've already made my mind up that I don't want the Dalmar ones because of the horror stories I've heard. SO which ones would be the best?

Thank you in advance :)

I like Premier Equine eventing boots - have had mine for a few years and they are still going strong and have never slipped or rubbed.

If memory serves me correctly, yes you need a ticket for you and your horse, think you can get a combined one for £25 but you also need to pay £10 for a day pass membership, for BE80 it's a training pass membership: https://www.britisheventing.com/asp...966&itemTitle=How+To+Purchase+Training+Passes

Is he a cob? In my limited experience thick cob legs are really hard to fit boots on because they need wider than long compared to other breeds. My 14.1 cob is a nightmare so generally we don't bother. Anything that fits length ways is not wide enough and anything that's wide enough is too long.

Thank you :) I've looked at the Premier Equine ones they look nice, but I was a bit worried about the sizing because Joey has quite chunky but short legs haha

That's my worry! I'd asked Premier Equine last year which size would fit and I gave the measurements of Joey's legs they said a small would fit, but I'm not convinced. I'll have to see what their returns policy is like

out of curiosity, what horror stories have you heard? I've tried tons of xc boots over the years and always found dalmar the best, would never use any other ones. I've had the same pair for a few years now and they still do the job perfectly. Tried a few other brands and never liked them as much as the dalmar ones.

I heard a story about the carbon fiber in them not being up to standard and it shattered and cut the horse. It was a couple of years ago but it's put me off ever since :/ Other people had also said about the carbon fiber strike guards cracking as well.

i used to use the PE on my cob but she was pretty fine legged as far as cobs go and the medium were a bit too big so slipped and twisted - so i'd say if your cob is pretty cobby the PE may be fine - i've not got the Le Mieux and they are brilliant

He's quite chunky he measures around 20cm on his cannon bones. But this comment has given me hope :) Thank you!

have a look at WW smart XC boots. Went for these after PE ones. Lightweight, dont rub, fit well and most importantly max protection.
