Any suggestions?

(And no Im not about to breed my horse - atleast not this year but all the foaly talk is making me feel very broody!)

Temperment and trainability would be top of the list
Then conformation - (Something to balance out a slightly upright shoulder, long pasterns and a well set neck, oh and very short in the back)
Something to improve on paces, a little "wow factor" but not overly flashy
Preferably not full tb! But atleast tb type! Would like a little id/connie/sf in there (1/4 or 1/8th maybe).
And lastly potential - something with 2** potential!

no def dont go for high scope!! he has never sired anything, good at all! he was bred over here by a local bredder and did well himself but is not a sire of champions!

What bout Maltstriker, Cult Hero, Ricardo Z, Condios, etc they are all siring eventers over here at the moment!

Oooo Ricardo Z...drools. Seen some stunners by him. Its difficult because you've got to use something that is breeding good stuff rather than doing well, sometimes stallions can be 'end of line' and not improve on themselves.

I like Mill Law but with 180 mares to him last year alone I can't help thinking they're are going to be a fair few floating around.
 
If you want to take a risk and don't want to spend a huge amount then My Eclipse. My baby is by him and I've never met anything so easy going about everything, theres just no stress in her life no matter what you ask her to do and evry one of hisbabies I've met has been pretty much the same. Only thing with him is that he will throw the occasional foal with dicky conformation but 97% of his babies that I've seen have had good conformation.
 
brendon hill event stallions - trace to Ben Faerie and It's without Doubt is nearly full TB but not quite. Had a horse by him and he was fantastic eventing.

another by same stallion has been round badminto - Doubtless William
 
If you don't buy factory farmed chicken then why buy a factory farmed horse from the continent ?

People should buy BRITISH BRED horses and not imported ones.

UK Trainers should support UK horse breeding and not drag their clients abroad to buy horses when UK horses are better.


Pretty strong words.... have you had a bad experience.
I bought my Luso stallion from Portugal ...saw him at 4 months out with a herd of beautiful mares. Rode his sire. and kept him there and they competed him for me till i brought him to england as a 2 yr old. Specifically bought him to breed sport horses with my british sport horse mares. he is grandson of Novilheiro. sire of many top eventers.
He took part in evaluations as a 3 yr old and turned many heads.
My Boy is producing many top class youngsters yet many breed societys will not recognise him in the pedigrees.
No wonder british breeding is in a mess. he is known a unknown breeding ...what use is that!!??
 
Fleur had a very nice foal by Broadstone Landmark - lovely temperament - I went and met him at Writtle. He was doing very well eventing until he broke his hock, thus ending what was a promising career.

Not too expensive and has a lot of foals doing well.

luso's from portugal tend not to be f.farmed as horses are in Germany etc

sports ponies will accept him of unknown breeding but he won't get a full listing, however his progeny can be registered - but no good to you if he's over 15.2 as that's their height limit
 
Med Night Mahout - by Jumbo, 16hh, Intermediate eventer (only 2 points off Advanced), gorgeous, angelic temperament, throws lovely stock...

(He's not mine or anything, I just know him cos he stands alongside my stallion at Cliveden Stud. Mine's a 3yo Arab, and not even backed yet, let alone eventing, so probably not quite what you are looking for lol !)

Totally agree- theyre consistantly producing super eventers.
We've used Weston Justice (fab foal) and McGuigan who is just a little power house. There are some nice cheap-ish tbs around- SallyF's High Tension and Groomsbridge May I are both very nice

I wouldnt be put off going down the warmblood route- there's some very nice trakhners around and some lighter dutch horses which add a bit more movement and jump.
 
Well I can tell you who NOT to use, but that's more due to the owner than the horse - the horse is FABULOUS!! But I'd better not on open eh! Probably a bit far for you anyway and he doesn't do chilled/frozen.

I LOVE McGuigan (sp?) FABULOUS horse with serious ability IMO. Though I really like Mill Law, I do think that there are going to be rather too many and the if you are breeding to sell, then you may find the market flooded, which may lower their market value.
