Hi, and welcome.
If this happens, it might be something to do with pain?
It is the most common cause for a horse who does things out of the ordinary. I know that it always seems to be the answer, but 8/10 it is the cause. Does his saddle fit?
Has he had back/teeth checked? It is all really important to have checked.
Get some lessons with someone you like and trust and the confidence will come back. It is just a matter of keep doing it and you will get it back again.
Good luck. x

Take it slowly, the eventing season is long and you don't have to start this year. Only jump the height you are comfortable to jump and have some lessons to help with your confidence. What level will you be competing at?

aim for intros first they are nice small courses you don't need to worry bout jumping 1o5 and i would go back a bit jump smaller and get your confidence back, keep having lessons and enjoy it again if you are toghether and happy over smaller fences it will help you then move on to the bigger fences. good luck

As Irishcobs said, dont rush into competing BE, its not worth it if you're going to spend over £60 a time to not really be fully confident and perhaps get some not so great results. Pace yourself and if it happens that you're not ready for BE this year there's always next year

As for gaining confidence etc. as long as the horse is not in any discomfort then grids to start with would probably be good, then take it steady jumping 2'9''/3'0'' for a while until you are both confident then aim for an intro BE and then if you do a few and are happy set your sights on a PN BE by the end of the season

England/Newcastle area, thanks for replies, when he has been stopping it has been for no apparent reason his teeth back and feet are all fine. he has been off for about a week tho because of a displaced muscle, do you think this could be te prob! and we havnt been jumpin 105 all the time, maybe 2'6 at the most! im really annoyed at my self because when i first got him he was a real plaesure to jump but now im worried im spoiling him

!

Was he stopping much before he hurt his muscle? If not I would guess that it is still bothering him. Or at least in his head it is

sounds like the muscle may still be sore my boy pulled a muscle down the front of his chest and i was told not to jump him for 2 weeks or so. i'm sure u will get it all back again don't be hard on yourself it sounds like it just may still be a bit uncomfortable

i think i explained that rong! hehe! i havnt jumped him since his muscle was bad! but i was just wondering if it could have been that the whole time, when i was jumping him before! x

I'd get him checked out just to be sure then go back to Jamie's for some more lessons, he's lovely and will help you get confidence back and find some good events to start at. Take it slowly and you'll love it!
