erm..
horse bolted with me and I decked it in the carpark - onto a parked car :o
luckily only concussed and bruised. think I was out of it for a good while as I remember waking up being loaded into the ambulance on a back board and in a neck brace.

broke my arm jumping. horse stopped and I continued (oh the shame ) I ended up dislocating my elbow and snapping my radius :(
i was back riding 2 weeks later with the blessing of my orthopaedic surgeon :D
ive been kicked, bitten (cue black eye) and dumped on top of poles/jump wings but came out with only minor injuries.

I think it might be easier if I start with a list of bits that haven't been injured.

So... ummm.... no actually I think every bit of me has either been squashed, bitten, kicked, rolled on , broken, misplaced, removed  :)
LOL! I'm down to my right ankle and my left shoulder - everything else is damaged or broke!

Interesting that so many injuries seem to occur when handling horses on the ground. I've been kicked in the mouth - broken teeth and jaw, had a horse slip on ice and fall on top of me - tore all the ligaments in ankle, had a mare grab me by the skin of my back and throw me over a wall, broken numerous fingers. Nothing serious (yet!) due to falling off.

Mine are unbelievably tame compared to these. I have only been riding for just under 3 years, on and off.
I've been shocked uncountable times by electric fences. One of the worst was when I couldn't feel my hands and my heart felt like it was beating weird and I could taste metal.
I've been bitten numerous times by RS ponies (haven't we all!) Whilst leading in a lead rein lesson, A pony bit my forearm and it was bruised and then went swollen and hard for about a month.
The worst "almost" I've had was when I was riding my friend's newly broken WB, even though I am super inexperienced and hadn't even cantered yet. We took a little hack on the property my friend rents, on the gallops and around the pastures, she started arsing around because she could tell I was nervy, she did a couple of tiny rears and started backing up into a fence that had electric tape on it, so I grew a pair and kicked her butt till she moved forward. I had images of her galloping off, bucking and kicking. Something I knew I had no chance of riding out.

Yep broken collar bone coming off across country from nutty tb when I was 16

Very badly sprained foot coming off on hack about 18 months ago and broken finger from horse standing on it recently.

In 15 odd years off riding that doesnt sound much but my shoulder still gives me problems and my foot isn't and I don't think ever will be right again.

oh god these posts don't paint horse riding in a good light! all the usual broken bones from various falls- one broken ankle that I found out was broken 2 years after the event when was forced to a and e after another fall!

most recent was a momentary lapseof attention when turning out my tb that had been on box rest his enjoyment gave me one hoof in lower back and one in the sides of my ribs. winded and short of breath for at least ten mins and walking like I'd messed my pants for a week"!!!

didn't go hospital but figure at least cracked ribs cos still can't sit up in bed in a morning!

I've had lots and lots of bites and kicks. But then when you help problem horses thats what you get.
I also always seem to land on my head when I fall off so spend half my time concussed :p
The only time I havn't landed on my head led to serious injury :(
I was riding a young cob who I had just broken in. We were hacking round the block on our own and he got spooked by some cows. It all happened so quickly and he reared up and flipped over  I hit the road HARD. I knew instantly something was wrong. I heard something snap in my hip area and my leg was now at an awful angle. I phoned my boss to get the cob and put him in the field. I laid in the road waiting for her to come. When she arrived we called for an ambilance. I layed there for what seemed like forever in the middle of the road. Eventualy the ambilance arrived but they couldn't give me any pain reliefe as the gas and air thingy was broken. Not that I was actualy in much pain  I arrived at the hospital and I don't think they believed there was anything wrong with me as I was sat there laughing and joking and every time they asked for a pain score I told them it didn't realy hurt. It was just more like the worst ache I've ever felt. I could see the look on the doctor and nurses faces. They were all thinking "Young melingerer, She's come of her horse and brused herself and is now wasting our time"
Eventualy they sent me for an xray. From where I was sat in the room I could see the little screen with the xrays on. I was right. I could clearly see my hip was broken in three places.
Then the docotor came into the room and lent on my trolly and said "Now does anywere else hurt" I replyed "My wrists abit sore, But look I can do this with it" I waved my hand around like some kind of nutter. The next thing I knew that was being xrayed to :o. They then rushed me out of xray and into recuss and hooked me up to all sorts of mechienes. The doctor came in and said "I have some good news and some bad News" "bad News is your left hip is broken very badly and your left wrist is broken to"
"ok, whats the good news?" I asked
"The good news is you have a very high pain threshold" "Child birth will be easy for you" He replyed
Funnily enough child birth was the last thing on my mind at that moment in time but I have heard that hurts alot.
Anyway. I had my wrist put in plaster and surgary on my hip. They thought they would just have to replace it but I begged them not to and they pinned and plated it to give it a chance to heal. I spent 3 and a half weeks in hospital and wasn't ment to walk without cruches for 6 months. (I was back riding in 4 ;) )
I had the axcident in 2008 and my hip still gives me trouble now :( especialy if it's damp and cold (Not looking forward to winter) :(

Like someone else said it is scary how many of you have been injured on the ground!!! I guess I have been quite lucky in that department as I have only had 2 injuries on the ground.

My old WC was tied to a piece of string attached to a door frame, he pulled back and the door frame gave way I managed to keep hold of him as was worred the door frame with the nails would wack him. I got dragged across the car park. Cue some VERY impressive bruising all down my leg and arm. we were going to Florida the next day, boy you should have seen the looks people gave my OH as they thought he had beaten me lol

Got kicked in the back of my thigh sending me sprawling, I swear if it had been the front it would have broken my leg, had deep bruising for months

oh was supposed to be riding but he chickened out so I hopped on, WC slipped on grass and we both fell, I landed flat on my back (no bp) had trouble with it for months and sometimes still plays up now

Worst was when I landed on my feet after a really silly fall, Badly fractured my ankle which was plated and pinned badly and has resulted in a replacement ankle joint, and a revision of said joint. Finally seems to be doing ok ish now

I've had lots of scrapes and bruises from bites and kicks and a bit of concussion as a child but last year a freak accident resulted in a ruptured spleen and now a lifetime of antibiotics!

I think when one is brought up in an environment with many horses around you do tend to learn very quickly at a young age to always keep your wits about you. In a lifetime I've had a few minor equine-related injuries but none have been serious.

^^ agree with this :) the one reasonably serious injury i had was entirely due to my not paying attention to the correct horse!! (i was watching the foal not the mare- oops!!)

I have had my hand pinned back together after a loading accident, fractured my cocsyx (sp?) after falling off onto the road, broken my nose more times than I care to think by dropping things on my face normally the saddle after taking it off a very tall horse, once I opened the tack room door onto my face and wonked my nose up on that too... broke my arm without knowing, did pony club camp for a week and the got sent to a&e the following week- was in plaster for 2 months!

The ground/gravity/horses/my errors have only caused a small but painful list...

1. Torn shoulder muscle - pony put a dirty stop in and I went over the jump without it and landed on my shoulder
2. Bruised Cocyx (sp?) - pony span round and I ended up on my ass on concrete with a bruised bum ad cocyx, couldn't walk properly for walks let alone run, still foolishly went riding though.... (younger and more foolish then)
3. Kicked in the knee and crumpled on floor like I'd been shot, recovered after a week no idea what I'd actually done
4. Chucked myself off a bucking bronco (aka giant TB cob cross like looked like a moo cow) and broke 3 ribs, had whiplash, bruised elbow (already injured from an injury thanks to a wall) and a partially collapsed lung, shouldn't have gone to work the following monday but did - it hurt like hell.
5. 6 weeks after the above I hacked out and same hoss bucked me off down a hill and I rebroke one of the ribs that had already healed nicely :(

Ribs now okay, but I'm still a bit wonky 12 months on as I've now got a torn ligament in my knee, much to my digust I was under the influence of alcohol or horses for a change :p I am doing my damndest to ignore it tho :p

I'm going through this now...I got kicked in the back about 3 months ago by the mare that my horse shared with. She was taking a pop at my mare and I got caught in the middle In 20yrs it's the first time I've ever been kicked. Fractured 3 ribs and had a week in bed. However, that was not the last of it. Since then I have struggled hugely with various infections etc and I'm now off work again with yet another infection and abcess and feeling incredibly run down. I've never been in this position but since that one kick, my whole body has just crumbled. Horrible.

When I was 13 I came off a horse and landed on my hip...was totally misdiagnosed and hence forth I struggled until last year with awful back problems. I'm now 27. No sooner am I over my back problem than I'm struggling with some sort of immune problem. Rubbish!

Kicked in the face in the show-ring at the Devon County - broken nose, VERY excited St John's Ambulance (first blood casualty of the show!). Needed surgery to get it straightened.

Twice broken collar bone falling off

Grabbed on thigh and dragged across stable by VERY mean mare (I don't consider removal of an EMPTY bucket from the stable as an excuse!). Happened before last Xmas but still have a lump on my leg and scarring, and the cold weather makes it quite peinful (like an old war wound!).

Broken 3 bones in my hand - I got my hand stuck between a horses head and a stable door when it got its head collar caught on the latch. First aiders thought it was bruised so I carried on riding for a whole week of PC Camp. Got it checked out and it was pretty badly broken. Did hurt tbf!

I god bitten on my left boob, t-shirt and bra destroyed! Couldn't wear a bra as it was so painful, just a fairly loose bikini top. Two days after I jumped in my first newcomers on my very bouncy big jumping KWPN, I can remember to this day the looks I got from the three whittakers and the various other 'names' I was warming up with as I'd land after a jump and grab my boob in pain :D
I still hate the mare to this day, I even asked if I could hold her while she was shot (due to a stud shutdown, she had no use bless her) and was gutted to find out I'd missed it by a day!

My falls (and ther ehave been A LOT of them) have all been relatively minor with the worst, being winded or whip-lash.

I was on a SJ yard and brushing one of the horses. The horse got a fright and leaped sideways, knocking into me and I fell over. This spooked the horse and he jumped to the back of the stable - in the midst of this he stood on my calf.
My leg from toe to knee was swollen and a mottling of colours. I still have a limp and the leg occassionally collapses. I had been advised by doctor to stop riding etc as it was getting aggrivated and I managed for a couple of months. I now have 2 ponies, ride one regularly and I feel personally, that keeping it mobile is more important :D

There have been a lot of near misses - kicked in the back, kicked in the leg - several times -, caught a pony until it literally jumped over me, knocking me to the ground and charging off, etc.
