She was complaining the other week about having to bend down to get brushes out of her grooming kit off the floor (she's perfectly able bodied by the way and she's only in her late 40's it's just lazyness) so she wanted to put a bit of wood onto our gate so she could hang her grooming kit up.

I asked why couldn't she just hang it off the bit of wooden fencing next to the gate where she used to hang it but she said she didn't want to put her hand through the electric fencing. I pointed out that the electric tape had to be off before we tied the horses up anyway and she said "oh... yes you're right I'll just do that then"

I went up to do the horses today (first time in what feels like forever since taking on this new job - still doing full time hours btw even though it was only supposed to be 20hrs because the manager "couldn't be bothered" to change it back down till the week after next) to find that she had nailed a bit of wood on about 2ft off the ground.... with the nails sticking out about an inch pointing towards the horses!

Just waiting for a punture wound! *facepalm**bangs head on desk*

So I pulled the bit of wood off the gate and one of the nails got stuck in it (they are those nails that have no flat bit to hit with the hammer, they're basically just a sharp pointy bit of very thick wire) and I had no hammer to pull it out with so I knocked it back with a stone so it's not poking out and bent it down from outside the gate to make sure it doesn't accidentally somehow get pushed back through till I can get it out properly.

Sometimes I just want to rock in a corner hugging my knees :(

I think I love your mum!! But she's totally barred from ever visiting my farm if she comes to North America! :biggrin3: I DO so love the stories you tell about her though :smile3:

Ha ha! thank you for making me giggle, I was feeling pretty stressed about it all till then :) Are you sure you don't want her? I contacted UPS after the last time and it's actually very reasonable to send her for re-schooling... ;)

Very glad you spotted it. My girl nearly lost an eye due to a sticky out nail, she rubbed her head on the fence and the nail went deep under her lower lid, amazingly missing her eye but causing an expensive out of hours vet call and strong antibiotics and painkillers for a week, plus the wound flushed daily.

Your mum is like the antichrist of a health and safety booklet!!

OMG! Ooh poor girl! :(
Me too, it was actually the first thing I saw what with it being on the gate, I was just gobsmacked really

I was actually on my way to investigate why the electric fencing was down and the horses were in the bottom paddock instead of the top one... turns out someone (and I'm not naming names here ;)) had somehow managed to connect up the battery but disconnect the actual tape and earth stake....

Yes she is a bit really... does anyone want a lovely 14.2hh Cob X Arab, comes with full wardrobe including free mother? ;)

Oh lordy I also love your mum stories, bless her!

Times like this I am glad my parents are scared to go near the fence let alone the horses, I know my mum would drop some right clangers!

I feel your pain but the way you pt it does make me giggle!...
I hav similar problems with my dad who being a dairy farmer doesn't quite understand why they can't have barbed wire fencing, silage or why they need rugs in winter or be fully mucked out regularly

in winter my mum will occasoionally decide to "do the stables" for me if i'm busy at school...moore than once i have returned to be proudly told that everything was done stable mucked out bedding down etc "i just needed to feed".. i go up to stables to find to ponies stood rather forlornly in the middle of their stables with the banking up to the rafters...i just sorted it and didn't hav the heart to tell her :D

Ha ha LittleRocketRider! Just picturing your horses stood there with a "look" on their faces "um...your mum was here again then" :D

So no takers? Really Pippa is lovely and my mum would be very useful about the house... no? ;)

I know it's not good to laugh, but I just couldn't help it. I'd actually started giggling just at the title before I even went in to read the post! :biggrin3:

And the answer is still no :smile3:

Well sometimes it's either laugh or cry really ;)
Damn... well it was worth a try, maybe if I advetise her on preloved someone will offer her a good home ;)

Have you tried clicker training her? :tongue3: I stopped a friend from turning up late by treating her with chocolate buttons everytime she was on time... :smile3:

Ha ha! Brilliant! :D

I wouldn't advertise her in the horsey section mind :p

Good point! I could put her in the household section, she's a decent cook, cleans and irons like a dervish! :D

She'd definitely love it there then :D Some bringing on may be required but she has a lot of potential :D

Will you part exchange for a promising 7 and 3/4 year old son? Very intelligent and forward going, eats a lot but never puts on weight or gets skinny, destined for great things but unfortunately has chronic verbal diarrhoea! :p

Oh hang on a minute! Maybe I was a little hasty in saying no ... :biggrin3:

Ha ha! Sorry SpringFeather, looks like Tankgirl beat you to her :)

Hmm is he a weight carrier/ usefull around the field at all?

God, I hate these sellers who can't make up their minds about selling or who to sell to! I can offer schooling, plenty of stimulation, I can bring her on to do pretty much anything. Would you consider a full loan?

Yes! Sold! (well you know what I mean) :D
Sorry Tankgirl, CT has the best offer and tbh I do love her so can't really imagine parting with her for ever, at least if I loan her out I know that she can come back to me ;)

So Cinnamontoast shall I pop her in the first post tomorrow? Best go wake her up and tell her the good news! In the interest of full disclosure she does have issues with the dentist so sedation may be required :/

I'm sure she'd be pleased to know she started a bidding war too :D

Dentist issues?! First I've heard of this!! Are you a dodgy dealer?! Can you ensure she sees a dentist before I get her?

Is she barefoot? I can't really afford shoes as well as full livery for her. Does she travel ok in a trailer? And finally, can you hold her til I get back from holiday? :tongue3:

Sorry, honest mistake if it's a deal breaker I'd understand :)

She is shod at the moment but I'm sure with the right management she would cope well barefoot but if you are worried about costs maybe you should look into getting something smaller and cheaper like a wee granny?
