Do you ever have days where you feel like you just can't ride? Today is one of those days. All 4 of my horses at work too the utter mick today. Lou I don't mind so much as she runs next week so she is allowed to have fun. Champ. Well if your struggling to pull up Champles your not having a good day! Well actually no he can be a keen, numb headed wee toad at times. But today he was being extra special and giving me a hard time. Then Soxy did the same. Honestly. They are obviously feeling very well for themselves but did they really need to pick a day when I am just about bottomed out to be toads!?!

PS
Currently I ride even worse than usual as I was on box rest for a few weeks, last autumn, then (due to horse’s (now healed) scraped fetlock) , he was on gardening leave for over 3 months (yes I know that sounds like overkill for a scrape).

Anyway, after building up with some groundwork we started gentle hacks last week and my bum is sore and my legs are like spaghetti. I did join the equipilates course though doing it regularly is a challenge.

If Elf feels she can't ride then not much hope for the rest of us.

Eta not riding but today Tigger decided he was going to take me skiing towards every patch of grass coming in from the field. Embarrassing being towed at a brisk jog on the end of a leadrope. He looked so affronted when he was told off.

Great levellers, horses 😃
Sure are! Luckily as he sailed out the gate and galloped up the road some guy walking his dog rather heroically I thought lept in front of him, caught him and legged me back up. Super impressed at someone diving in front of a galloping 16.3 TB! He told me he worked at a racing yard! Imagine the chances!

I remember having a 17.2 grey gelding on loan called Lucky. We hacked everywhere and decided to go to the beach which was 1 mile away. Cantering along and all of a sudden I hit the deck… lucky spooked at seaweed and down I went out the side door! I was 17 so I bounced quite well but getting back on was the challenge 😂

I had this last weekend when my novice 11 yr old niece rode my 16.1hh TB. I’ve had him 11 years (she was a month old when I got him). She’s been riding at a riding school once a week for 18 months. She was sat on him 20 mins and was doing a lovely job trotting him over poles - he’s all relaxed and really striding out. I get on the next day and he went like a giraffe with an anxiety disorder!

My last instructor told me that I actually ride very well. I understand the correct use of the aids and the outcomes of using them. I always make the right decision but....

I overthink everything, assume the question is more complicated than it is so don't do what I should.

So if I could switch my brain off, I'd be a much better rider 🫣😒😶

But it’s spring or supposed to be if it would stop raining and / or blowing a gale. Horses are always a bit bonkers at this time of the year - full of the joys of spring my mother would say - so whether you can ride or not look forwards to some excitement or maybe just enjoy the flying lesson?
