I owned horses and ponies from the age of 10 up until 2 years ago (I am 25 now!)... and I have to admit the reason I gave up was because I was completely FED up. I had had a succession of horses with health problems which meant they couldnt be ridden and was completely fed up the box rest/vets bills/expense of it all!!

Now 2 years (nearly 3 actually - crikey!) on I am finding my love for them all over again... and because things have changed in my life a lot (finished uni, full-time job, live with boyfriend, rented house, more money etc) I am thinking of starting again and buying another.

Was wondering whether anybody else had been through a similiar thing? And whether when you got another you appreciated it the way you should?

yes. i had a 2 year break - the horse was pts though. but with that i had nothing but vet bills and upset.

so took 2 years out and came back fighting. got the 4 year old and nw having fun :)

i still find it hard to believe i can ride this one and not just look at it in the field lol (thats all i could do with the last)!

if you can afford it - why not loan for a 6 months say with view to buy?? then see how you feel rather than buying then thinking omfg what have i done?!

:)

Yes, that was the problem last time... everyone else it seemed was able to actually ride theirs whilst I was always coping some ailment or other!

When I was younger I used to have a little carthorse with a heart of gold who was never sick or sorry and that is what I would like all over again... nothing too fancy just something to have fun on and enjoy!

Yes, I like the idea of 6 month loan with view to buy and have been looking for either a loan/part loan situation. However, it doesnt seem that many people are willing to do this nowadays?

Any suggestions on where to look?

:)

i loved my last horse to bits but knew when to call it a day... very sad but for the sake of his health and my sanity!....

to look;

preloved.? here..horsemart etc....

part loan would be good o start with and tbh from that you will know if you are ready...

i did part loan then got sick of it tbh so bought :D

good luck:)

Yep, frequently, often about February time. I used to pack up my hunting kit, turf the horses out and have a breather.

On other occasions I have sold them and gone to do other things. The constant day in, day out, grind gets to me sometimes. I could leave it months before I get another horse, or it could, and has been previously, years before I had them again.
