Have you ever had one of those days that you just feel like an utterly pish poor rider and want to jack it all in?

I'm on my horse just now (cool down) and I can't ride him to save myself! I can't sit up straight, I can't look up, I can't keep my hands still, I can't keep my legs still and I can't for the life of me sit to canter! I used to be such a neat, quiet rider that never moved a dot on a horse and now I jus can't stay still!

I have 3 theories:
My horse rides like a bouncy jackhammer (upright tb) and he was being a hyperactive knob today.

My job has changed my riding style from neat to slob. Work riding racehorses is vastly different and uses different muscles.

I have just become crap and lazy and too used to doing begger all on the back of a horse.

I'm going with option 3.

To make things worse I am supposed to be going to a show tomorrow and now don't want to because I ride like a ****.

I'm now actually very angry at myself for getting myself into this situation! Sorry for the rant! And a ride on a stunning hackhammer tb if you got this far!

Please dont take this the wrong way but ..... dont be a plonker :D! Look at your post, you know exactly what you need to do to perform better, youve written it down.
Now if you just described what you were doing wrong, not a list of things you need to do to make the picture right, id say you had a point, and the horse hasnt made it easy for you today, sounds like youve just had a chit day ;)

I have days like this. My boy is a bit stiff and very bumpy but we are working on it. Sometimes it's great and I can feel a real improvement but this week I can't sit to him, keep anything still or even rise in time with trot - it all feels like a bag of spuds! However, next time might be great again and that's why I'm still trying! You're just having an off day - keep on keeping on! Hugs

I haven't ridden since November and wont for at least another couple of months by which time I'll have had all my stomach muscles cut through (C section!)
I'm expecting seveal months of complete inability to ride at all - I promise I'll ride worse than you!!

*raises hand*

Yep I have days like that.....normally when I am riding out with others and do to want look like a plonker and end up looking like one with heels up and hands doing there own thing.

When I am on my own I notice a difference:o

Yes I have lots of days like this, however as someone once said to me if you know where you are going wrong then you can do something about it!! I do Pilates now and it's helped me with all those issues. My job permanently desk bound caused my issues!

Chin up.

Agree about riding racehorses. Also agree you are having a bad day and trying too hard.
Tomorrow is another day, breathe and relax.

Saying that I appear to have lost the ability to rise to the trot, and in an english saddle altogether, my solution was to go out and buy a horse that doesn't trot :D Somewhat extreme.

Enjoy the show, I hope the sun shines for you :)
