When I was a kid I went to see this gorgeous Black pony called beauty, I rode him in the woods and jumped him, he was fantastic. We got home and decided to buy him, my mum called and was told by the seller that he wasn't actually for sale, she had advertised him to get someone to come and see him to scare her daughter into riding and looking after him!

I was so mad and upset and he was perfect!

That's mean! I've had a few sellers tell me their horses were just what I was looking for, then when I got there told me actually they weren't...annoys me when seller knows what u want, tells you to come and visit then says they're only a driving not riding horse (when I wanted both!!) grr

When I was 14 I went to look at a horse that ''never put a foot wrong'' I got on went trotting around the indoor school when it bolted and i mean bolted his eyes were rolling backwards and he won't stop i fell off. The owner blamed me and got on herself when the same thing happened to her. A livery then walked in and said oh sorry didn't realise he was still doing that or I would have waited outside!!!! Needless to say my mum went mental at the woman for allowing me as a teenager on the horse!!

Grrr yes! But thats worse than what I went through!! Although I have a feeling it may be similar as when we offered a deposit via paypal (they were 2 hours awa) she said not to worry and when I offered to pay the livery/compensate due to delay in collection- she said not to worry they were very "chilled" then they never returned calls or emails.....

yes, claimed that her horse had been placed at dressage and was well muscled. the scrawny, sickly horse that we turned up to see had no muscle and could only have been placed in dressage in front of someone who fell off. The only chance that we would have bought him would have been if we felt sorry for him.

Yes! I went to see something years ago that I was told on the phone was about 10, the woman had "hurt her back" so been unable to ride for months, and that he was a good doer, for a TB. It was underweight, about 20 rather than 10, and a complete fruitloop so I can see why she didn't want to ride it - I arrived a bit early and saw her lugging bales of shavings around so her back can't have been that bad

Also went to see one described as "evenly marked coloured cob mare, county standard, XC, SJ, dressage, snaffle mouth at all times". It was a real FUGLY candidate, poor mare was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. She had one small black patch about the side of a 50p on her chest and the rest of her was white. She was in a pelham and I watched their "instructor" jump her....she refused a 1ft X pole twice. She was advertised a week later again due to timewasters. That made me PMSL!!

Yup!! Went to see a 7 year old gelding advertised as an 'allrounder'... just what I wanted to get back into riding after a 2 year break due to injury...

Turned up to find a straggly gangly half starved wreck with 1 shoe hanging on for dear life and the other 3 nowhere to be seen... knee the size of a football!! Got on him grudgingly and realised he'd barely been broken... but there was something about him... the way he looked at me with his big soft brown eyes... after flinching when I tried to stroke him...

I went back 3 days later and collected him and still have him 9 years later!!

Wouldn't change him for the world, he's my perfect horse... I found out when I got him home and called the vet (there was no point in having him vetted at the sellers yard who was obviously a dealer... I knew he'd fail!!) But wanted him checked over... No way he was 7 said the vet... 3 rising 4 more likely... later had this confirmed by the dentist...

Spent the first 6 months trying to teach him that he didn't need to be scared of people anymore, a further year or 2 trying not to get killed by him each time he bolted and the next 7 years with the most amazing horse I could have dreamt of... it was worth the effort of the first couple of year a hundred times over!!!

Yup, tried out a pony when I was about 11. Nice skewbald 14hh (was originally told it was 14.2hh but clearly barely 14hh when I went to see him). Was 5yo just recently broken but a nice pony really, super in traffic (rode him past 4 tractors and numerous lorries and buses on a main road and sand school was next to the road) and had hunted a few times. I was looking for a novice jumping pony who would be able to do a bit of hunting and share with my older sister. When I think back, he really was a snazzy pony - real nice markings, good conformation, quite like a mini TB but not strong. He did however stop once when I jumped him - que me falling off and landing sitting on the front bar of the spread facing him. Rode him twice and seller offered him on trial but said he would like to take him showjumping schooling to a big indoor first o give him more experience over coloured poles as felt he was a little inexperienced for us. Arranged to deliver pony the following week - start of Easter holidays and never turned up...
Turns out he brought it schooling to a large Eq Centre and the EC owner offered him money then and there (as had we but he had insisted on the schooling and trial). Was disgusted/distraught - pony was incredibly well priced and perfect.
Also went to see ponies at the purchaser's EC - was supposed to see 2 grade C showjumpers and the coloured pony but they had turned the coloured pony out to grass and therefore couldnt try him again ( this was 4 weeks later). Owner said he had turned him away the day he bought him (but only told us when we turned up to see him!!) BUT was looking for 2000IRpounds MOREthan he had bought him - with no extra work in him!! Needless to say he never did get that price and on principle dad wouldnt deal with him - in retrospect, now knowing EC owner better, dad was right not to!

Yes... Agreed to buy a horse once only to find out when I called to arrange the pickup it had been sold to someone else. Another "sweet" personality horse tried to kick us twice in the field. And a "nice well mannered little companion pony" backed me into the corner of the stable, luckily didn't kick :-)

i had one change sex from a gelding to mare, also it changed colour from grey to chestnut,it changed from a cob to a tb and grew from 15.1 to 16.2

the advert said 15.1 grey cob gelding, the horse was a 16.2 chestnut mare!

We once travelled 3 hours to see a horse that was supposed to be 15.3. I had explained to the seller that my son , although not tall was a rugby player and therefore quite stocky and heavy. We were assured the horse would carry him.
When we arrived it was only about 14.2 max. and TB type. No way would it ever have carried my son. Wewere so annoyed as it not only wasted our time but the sellers as well.

I went to a dealers yard to look at a couple of horses he had for sale. From the descriptions one was a complete schoolmaster 9 years old and the other a sensible all rounder who was a fantastic jumper. The 9 yr old was more like 20 seriously underweight and could barely move and the sensible allrounder wouldn't go near a jump and when they eventually got her over it she reared and bronced.needless to say I didn't buy a horse from him.

I went to see a Haflinger ponio. Was advertised as quiet to ride, when I asked the owner said it was good on the roads, hacks out alone, easy to handle; I said I'd want to see it caught, tacked up, and ridden on the roads before i would get on, she said fine.

...we got there and pony was caught and taken on to the yard...followed by two shetlands. I was then told that said pony wouldn't go anywhere without them, and they'd have to be led out with us when I rode her

and the owner then found a saddle that she thought "might fit" (despite the fact that this was a 13.3hh pony and saddle was about 18 inches)

and said I'd have to get straight on, there was no one else to ride first. I said thanks but no thanks and went home at that point!!

I went to see a Dutch warmblood mare for 4000 pounds, described as stunning, good jumper and well hunted. I was totally appalled by the state of her - she was in a tiny dark stable, had an abscess in her mouth, sores all over her flanks and was miserable to ride and fly bucked when you put your leg on, probably due to her sores. I felt so sorry for the horse, I asked the owner why she didn't keep her until she got better and the reply was 'God, I don't want her, just look at her!'. Sad.
