Ever since I took Pidge round Somerford Park he has been on a mission! hacked him sat and sun and he was leaning so much on my left hand my arm is sore

so sat I took him in the school and worked him hard for 30 mins and eventually got him off my hand. He did the same on sun and so I borrowed sister's stick and he had a few taps behind my leg which did nothing, so took him in the school again after the hack and he was fine from the moment we got in there. It was only then that I cottoned on to the fact that when we hack I never ask for him to work properly and we just chill out. So me changing the boundaries and asking him to work properly on the hacks has resulted in him being stroppy and now he has a sore mouth on the left. Sorry for mammoth post but am now feeling like crap for hurting him

Just feel like I don't deserve him at the moment as he is so good and forgiving to me and I just expect him to know what I want!
 
Arrrrr...we all have times like that though. Well, I certainly do.

Patches was always snatching her head for grass in the verges. I decided to be a bit more forceful, a while back, at stopping her and she had a rather pink mouth post hack. I felt awful too.

I'm as guilty as the next person of not being consistent with my riding from hacking to schooling. I'm really concentrating on that now, but it's not easy. I find hacking so chilling and relaxed that I struggle to remember she's still supposed to work "properly" and not lollop around with me. I look like a tourist, sight seeing sometimes!

never even thought about it but always hack and chill, and when in the school either work or jump. So entirely down to me that he has a sore mouth

Did you want to come to Somerford on the 8th May as you could go round with sis and Sunny if you wanted to?
 
I hack out in a hackamore to give her mouth a break when we have had a tough schooling session. I can rarely get her to come round or do any work on a hack as she is too busy nosying down driveways and over hedges!!

His mouth will soon be better!, of course you deserve him!!
 
Are you not going again yourself?

I'd love to go. It's just mid-week. Kids at school to sort out. Isobel is at nursery so only goes from 12.50 - 15.20. Bit awkward fitting things in around that.
 
thanks Lisa, girl on yard has a hackamore going spare so may just see if I can borrow it for a few days. If I use the loose ring kk then it gets pulled out the left side of his mouth so have been using the fulmer version for a while.
May sounds just like Pidge when hacking too nosey for his own good at times

cool will book it in my diary, you don't mind if sis comes as well do you? Pidge and Sunny are inseperable, well Sunny is ok if not near Pidge but Pidge acts like a big baby if he's not near Sunny

Three is a good number. I have a friend who discovered the joys of farm rides on Saturday too. Might even see if she wants to tag along. Her horsey is very sedate. If that's ok with you and your sis of course?
