......with laughter?

It was a first for me. Local unaffiliated show, but thats our level. Second dressage test for me and young pony Prelim 17. Aim of the day to stay in the arena (kept shying at white boards and weaved between them last time out) and more than 52%.

Started well good rythmn not spooking at the white boards

some nice trot work, although could have been more forward and a nice walk.

It all went a bit "off" in the canter. Wrong lead to strike off and then we went down the long side...and kept going right out of the arena...and the entrance.. emergency stop using a fence (thank goodness judges were in a shed and couldnt see at that point). On the video all you can see is the ponys head getting lower and lower and me trying to stay composed and shouting out sorry as we whizzed past the judges!!!

Back to the arena apologised and asked if we could continue. Judges apologising trying to get their breath back and stop crying.

So we picked up at the downwards transition, changed the rein, right canter....even faster exit...across the arena and out the entrance. Second emergency stop.

Appeared back infront of the judges and cheerfully asked if they would mind if we re entred again and finished down the centre line....they were great and said go right ahead. The laughing was so loud it was all caught on video and we now had quite an audience.

So picked up from the downward transition and down the centre line....I could see the judges holding their breath to see if we were going to stop...and really good trot to halt transition

Judges were GREAT and gave some really constructive advice, and called out a very jolly see you next time.

Score.. E ...strange that. picked up score sheet 6's and a few 5's to start...comments Brave effort.

Aim for next time...stay in arena.

So come on people share and make me feel better about my riding (cant stop a 14.2 pony for goodness sake) and tell me it will get better.

hi there well im 19 and i just can not for life of me stop my 13.1 pony that i have had since i was 9

he was fine when i was little but the older we are both getting the worse he seems to be getting

i think its just because he is a rescue pony and just seems to be loving his job too much (he does a lot of showjumping and cross country)

i just have to sit and steer and hope i stay on ha ha ha

but no cant say i have ever made a jugde cry with laughter

Great story...made me really laugh. Good on you for having a sense of humour about it all.
Funniest dressage for us.. Daughter on small pony at PC riding for cups dressage comp.
Enter at A and proceed down centre line and halt at X. Allow pony to have a little snack of grass... grin madly and look all around you hoping that it doesn't matter. Smile as much as possible showing off your lack of two front teeth... give pony a huge pat and then kick madly, Thlewell style, until pony obliges and continues with test.
Had us all in fits.

Very cute 12.2 grey welsh section A ridden by equally cute little girl in pig tails. It was a moment I will never forget.

Glad that people can have a bit of a laugh.

I am far too old to be taking myself seriously (well over 35) or could it just be that I have been riding for long enough to know that horses choose the best moments to show you to be the biggest fool?

If I could figure out how to change the video format from mpeg to something more easily downloadable you could all see.

I've not made a judge cry with laughter, but I have made a judge almost cry. One year at PC camp, on 12.1 games pony that could be a bit sharp. Was doing the DR test for the final day, and asked for canter between M & C and the minx decided to p**s off. Of course I'm only 9 and don't have a seat for the life of me, so go straight out of the side door. Onto the judges car bonnet

I dented it, and had no BP on. Needless to say I didn't carry on. Now turns out I'm eventing with her and see her on a regular - ish basis and we have a laugh about it!

Well at a pony club ODE one judge thought my final centre line was so appalling on Fiddler that he must have been stung by a wasp so she got out of her car after the final halt and checked him over!!! she was very kind and we ended up on a 25 dressage and won the event!
blush.gif
needless to say he was just being his usual prattish self and didnt get stung by any sort of flying creature!!

Ive certainly surprised several judges on Fiddler as he would do a beautiful test and then cock up every time down the final centre line! Ive done rears and spins to end up halting the wrong way up the centre line, he charged so strongly down in extended trot once that i nearly went straight into the bonnet of the judges car
blush.gif
and ive had a whole audience plus judge and writer openly laughing at me as i half passed down the final centre line with no hope in hell of stopping him at G!!

Haha MDM!
I've had
1] Volcanic transition [! technical terms there
wink.gif
]
2] Hope your horse enjoys the XC
3] Back to the drawing board I think - Well, what can I say? [ouch, and that was pony club]
4] 3 tests on the trot I got a "well done for staying calm"
and 5] at Oasby PN the judge actually got out of her car! I was in tears before during and after the test, and at the end she got out and said "Don't worry sweetie, I wouldn't have wanted to have swapped places with you."

I think we should make a collaboration of judges comments y'know.... xD

Our funniest occurence in a Pony Club test went like this -

Enter at A, proceed in working trot up the centre line - grind to halt at D for a pefectly executed poo - then proceed in working trot with same saintly expression on pony's face.......

Daughter asks judge and writer (sitting in chairs at C) as she trots past, "shall I start again?"

Judges comment 'losing impulsion'! (It wasn't just the impulsion she lost

)

I once fell off in the middle of a dressage test! Opps! My last horse (below) hated any kind of flatwork so it was probably v.stupid of me to try dressage but I did anyway. We went into canter, got too fast, didn't quite make the corner & jumped the boards out of the arena, clearing the boards by about 2ft. As a result I exited via the side door. Opps! Being unaffiliated, the judge was sympathetic & asked if I wanted to remount & continue. I didn't!! I've never been so embarised & to make it worse it was one of the few tests my parents have ever come to watch. 20years of riding & that was the test they chose!

well done for finishing! i always find dressage judges have a good sense of huour. my tests comments have included:

slightly explosive transition (your not kidding!)
tactfully ridden (!)
we could tell what you were saying (really?! )
well sat (thank god for suede knee rolls)
flying changes not required at this level (i didnt ask for it!)
could be nice with a lot of work
well persevered
and the one i like the best-
left the arena briefly.

think ill stick to the showjumping.................!

Thanks guys, makes me feel better.

I know it can happen to anyone, there were plenty of moments in the olympics in all disciplines.

And good news travels fast, went to a local show in the sfternoon to see how some of the others from the yard were getting on....they have pre ordered the video.

Right now pony is in the field planning her tactics for our next outing!!

Thanks guys for really cheering up my Monday morning.

The best (worst) judge's comments I have ever had was for a very spooky warmblood mare that hated dressage boards. It was:

Tigers at K
Tigers at K again

and in the overall comments "Nobody died".

I got a standing ovation and round of applause - For all the wrong reasons!! That will teach me to take a nutty showjumper in a dressage competition

The comment said 'You're very brave' !!! Ha! Or stupid....

LOL at the tigers

My "best" comments :-

"I appreciate you were containing a potential disruption!! (Baby horse)

And

"2 time changes not required at prelim" - for my SJ showing off his flying changes skills across the diag!!

this reminds me of a test i did
it all started when i came down the centre line didn't quite get around the corner kinda went over the board then came back and then when it came to free walk long rein, well the pony i was riding decided to take full advantage and galloped across the diaganal and when i did eventually stop all i could see was the jugdes face i think they were a tad horrified but then i started laughing my head off n then every1 that was there watching including the judges joined me and found the funny side of it ha ha
smile.gif

i did finish tho but the rest of the test did invole some interesting moves ha ha
